I originally owned Destiny 2 through the Battle.net client back in 2017, though I quit for an extended period of time, and never transferred my account over.  Coming back to start the game fresh in 2021 was... a little jarring.  All of the Year 1 content (including the original Destiny 2 campaign), was completely scrapped, replaced with a questline very similar to the tutorial the first Destiny had.  A lack of a story made it difficult to immerse me back into the world of Destiny, but a good friend gifted me the Legendary Edition package on Humble Bundle in hopes of keeping me around to give the game another chance.

I immediately started off with the Forsaken campaign after the tutorial to catch back up with what story content I missed after quitting the game.  Unfortunately, the story content is altogether a mess and forgettable, though I do have to praise a lot of the gameplay changes since I last played, and overall feel of the core gameplay itself.  While Destiny is no Halo campaign by any means, the gunplay feels fantastic, and it's easily one of the best modern shooters I've gotten my hands on.  All the different weapons and abilities feel incredibly satisfying to use, and the new finisher system was a blast to play with.

I also really enjoy working through the Seasonal Challenges and Rewards that were introduced into Destiny.  The system helps to keep rewarding you for doing pretty much anything in the game, and you'll have a lot of great gear to grind for.

PvP in Destiny 2, however,, was something I never really understood much, and often was discouraged to learn and invest myself in.  This time around though, I found the Gambit mode to be very interesting.  A mix of PvPvE, similar to The Division, though the goal being two groups killing normal enemies on two separate maps, and occasionally jumping to the other map to kill players.  It was fun to mess around with.

As for the Raids, Dungeons, and other endgame content, I've not gotten around to testing any of that stuff, as my Light level isn't high enough to really be viable for them just yet.  Maybe soon.

Overall, I'd consider Destiny 2 to be a great game to get invested in for the core gameplay loop, but if you're looking for a concise story campaign, I'd recommend you look elsewhere.  The game and lore will altogether leave you with more questions than answers, and it's genuinely a mess.  The game is definitely better with friends, but so is every other multiplayer game, too.
