NOTE: There are no spoilers in this text

A year ago I made a pun review on nier:automata saying 2B's name means 2Booty (so original right?). But I never express how much I love this game. Seeing people down vote the game with only below 2hrs of game time (barely finishing the tutorial) or maybe because of the bad PC port or just didn't understand or enjoy the story. So after a year I decided to write an essay long thoughts about why I love the game and why you should try it.

TL:DR
Bad port is not equal to Bad game

First of all, I want to address the PC port. Yes, it's bad. I'd experienced it myself. The game is already been out more than a year it will be a miracle if square enix or platinum game release a fix. If you have a console I will definitely recommend you to buy nier:automata on that platform. But if you are a PC master race, there is a community fix that does its job. I use it myself it does fix the issues I'm having and I'm able to enjoy the game after. The game is just incredible that I didn't care about the port. But the bugs and issues of this port is really a hindrance to a larger audience to enjoy this masterpiece.

But I can't say I recommend this game to the type of person who are not into the story of a game or just playing for the sake of playing.


Now, to the main topic. The reason why i bought this game is for its quality combat and 2B's ass (wait. hear me out). I expect it to be a typical jrpg with good combat. But no, it's more than that. The cover tells you that the combat is the main highlight of the game but it's only a part of it. The developers did a great job concealing the actual plot of the game from the front page that it will hit you harder when you play it. The story and narrative of this game is so vague and stupid "IF" you play the game as it is. You need to read in between lines just to understand what is happening. That's a flaw that I can tell about the game. But it is also why I love this game. It doesn't make me feel stupid by telling everything in my face. The story that the game presents to you is just an outer layer of what the game really is. You need to dive deeper to fully enjoy the game which is a bother to some but brilliant to others. I can't say I recommend this game to the type of person who are not into the story of a game or just playing for the sake of playing. You can still find the game good because its platinum games combat but you can also find them in other platinum games creation like bayonetta which is a lot cheaper. You are enjoying platinum games' game not Yoko taro's game and this is a Yoko taro's game. I'm not trying to say that you should not play this game if you're not into story but this is maybe not the type of game for you. It's sad to see people dropping the game because it feel repetitive at some point and didn't care about the story behind it. Nonetheless, I definetly recommend this game. Try getting your friends who are interested in video game lore/story or play them together. I cannot emphasize more how much I love this game.
