After doing a marathon of all the Yakuza titles, this game actually feels really similar to 4 with an updated and much better UI and fighting mechanics. The fights do still feel like 4 but the enemies dont block as much as the other 2 PS3 ports. Theres still no sprinting in freeroam like the 2 prequels since 0 to Kiwami 2 had spoiled me with the faster movement. Playing 5 different characters was really interesting and stretched the gameplay hours A LOT. My favorite sections were Kiryus and Harukas. Everyone else was mid. Theres 5 different cities to be played on each with one of the main characters. The wangan minigame in Kiryus chapters was the best out of all the activities across the 5 characters. Although with 5 different cities to play, its a HUGE pain to travel across them as said before that there is no sprinting. Making movement extremely slow in free roam and a lot of the time when I was trying to run and avoid fighting gangsters was nearly impossible because they always caught up to me. Legit no sprint is probably my only issue with the gameplay with the exception of the mountain survival section being extremely boring.

Other than no sprint, this games story and gameplay is a lot better vs 3/4 but its incredibly LONG

This game is a much better step up from 3. The fights are a lot faster but one thing that annoyed me a lot in 3 was the blocking which is also something really common in 4. The story for this game was a huge mess especially with the Saejima section and something with the movement and travelling from one side of town to the other was just awful. Running across Kamurocho just felt really slow and just took forever to get to the next destination and theres a lot of missions that had long distances. The taxi stops were also pretty bad so walking across town was a better option sometimes. The sub stories werent as good as 0 - kiwami 2 but still enjoyable.

Despite the slow paced clunky gameplay the game is still pretty fun and enjoyable.
TL,DR: Slow clunky game but still enjoyable

Yes, its an old game. But the fighting just feels like I was fighting dinosaurs who block way too much with heat actions that dont seem to have too much impact like the previous games did. The cutscenes in this one are so long compared the other games and the story starts off extremely slow. Substories arent as good. NPCs dont spawn a lot if I was moving around, but if I was to stand still for 2 seconds the game will suddenly surround the character with a bunch of NPCs making it really annoying to get out or move around. Theres also a lot of issues with controller input where breathing near the movement stick would cause Kiryu to sprint across the map. I see why a lot of people would say this is the worst in the series and to just skip it, but I think the story is still somewhat decent and worth playing it through.

This was a huge step up from the first kiwami, the graphics are so good and they reused/reworked the map from 6 which still looks really good as well. The story is probably one of the best in the series, there is still always the comedic sub stories to act as a buffer if the main story is getting a bit too serious.

After 0 this game is kinda meh, looks amazing and plays as good as zero but being a remake of the original, the sub stories just arent as funny or interesting as the ones in 0. But still really fun without having as much content as 0.

How to play this game:
Step 1: bind honk to mouse wheel
Step 2: harass everyone in town with honk
Step 3: repeat step 2

Such a breeze to play after a bunch of other open world games. Kamurocho looks amazing, though some animations are a bit stiff and the main characters are too high res' compared to the people they talk to. The main story is really good but the comedic side quests is what really gets this game going.

Played the remaster of the original as the start of the trilogy, the controls felt like home and really good compared to the second game. There were a lot of bugs and issues that kinda soft walled the game from progressing sometimes without resetting multiple times. Gameplay felt super repetitive, the whole claiming districts and distributing them part was cool and all but the tasks were all just "drive all the way over there, kill/interrogate target" and repeat. This had to be done multiple times across 6 districts and if you needed to do more, this game would require you to drive across the entire map for objectives and like the second game, there is no fast travelling. There were also many parts of the map that aren't even used in the campaign. Story wise, its decent but not as good as the first 2 games. Instead of being apart of the mafia its now a sole survivor of a gang and other rebels going for revenge. The presence of the 3 under bosses felt so underwhelming since Lincoln is the one doing all the work, like a terminator that just destroyed everything. Atleast 1/2 actually had some friends or the gang being important in most missions but in 3... its like 99% Lincoln even when there are characters backing up for Lincoln, they don't really have much impact at all. 6/10
