It's good, and it is definitely a Bethesda game in terms of how you play it. But it just doesn't have the replayability of Skyrim or Fallout, or what Bethesda would suggest. The planets are huge but generally barren. The facilities you find there are all the same and just give you some dudes to shoot at. It all just blends together eventually.

You can make bases and that's cool, but they don't really serve a ton of purpose. Sure, you can extract materials, but you can also just buy them very easily. Compared to just looting everyone you kill and selling their weapons and then using the money to buy materials, setting up some ten bases and investing in the skill tree for better bases and flitting between them to collect and setting up tons of containers that have barely any storage to handle it all is, meh.

And then once you have your preferred weapons upgraded, then what? By the time you invest in all of this base building, you've probably already upgraded your weapons, I know I have.

There aren't any settlers save for companions you stick on the bases, and there are slim pickings for even those. The decorating is much better than Fallout 4, but the decorations are expensive if you haven't set up a supply network and it all just seems dead without any settlers. In Fallout 4, I would make bars and housing units for my settlers. Here? Why bother.

You can't fly your space ship on planets, which is silly. A limitation of Bethesda's Creation engine, I'm sure. I think they load a selection of the randomly generated planets as a map, and pepper little randomly generated bases on it. So you have to walk everywhere. There's no intermediate vehicle, like a rover, so you just walk. Most planets are just utterly barren and it's a chore. It's pretty at first when you get out and look around, but then it wears on you quickly.

The main quest and side quests are good, I like them. They're definitely Bethesda's strongsuit. The most fun I had in this game was with those, unsurprising given what I've written so far. I'd expound more, but it's hard to without spoilers. They're good.

The NG+ mechanic is a cool idea. They throw in some variation so you don't get utterly bored but, repeating the same quests over and over is meh as you'd imagine. The variation only seems to be for Constellation specifically.

You run into Temples early enough that I feel comfortable spoiling them. You get alien powers in this game eventually. You have to complete a puzzle where you fly in zero G to little sparkles in a big room. You do this exact puzzle, with no variation, for each Temple, which for your first playthrough, gives you a new power each time. But then, after you have all the powers, it just slightly upgrades your powers. And there are like 20 something temples. It's an absolute chore to fly around and upgrade them all.

Worth buying? Probably. The story's good. If $70 asking is too much, I'd pass. It's not THAT good.

The game seems fun in concept but there are no real tutorials on it and it's really hard for me to get into.
The tutorials I see go over features and HUD icons and stuff but even knowing the features every time I play I feel like I'm missing some part of a core concept of the game. Nobody has really distilled the thought process of picking moves or responding to this or that, whatever.

That I see as a failing in the game. I don't know how I can be expected to enjoy it when I'm just hopelessly beaten down and urged to be "unpredictable" or "predict the other guy" when I ask the guy I'm playing against. It's kind of like, cool, but I don't even know what I'm doing. A tutorial would be nice. I don't really want to spend some 1000 hours figuring out this game to even begin to enjoy it.

It was cheap, pretty much totally unique, and the replays are cool. I guess if you're into other fighting games and already have a leg to stand on you might enjoy this, but I can't really see someone picking this up totally new to 2D fighting games and having much fun with it. The replays don't really mean ♥♥♥♥ save for content creation and an after match treat. All of mine were of me getting slapped around.

I remember Toribash being similar, but like in Toribash, it has a really steep learning curve that ultimately made me leave for other games.

picked up this game again after a hiatus. here's what i think

pros.
cool dinosaurs
lots of room for creativity if you like building
pretty environment

cons
nearly 300 gb of space used. why? just why?

dinos ai is complete and utter garbage. this is my biggest, biggest gripe. for a game that is all about using dinos to do literally everything, they are pretty much worthless just because of their AI alone.

your dinos will refuse to follow you. they will get stuck on trees, rocks, pretty much anything they can find an excuse to get stuck on. then you have to go find where you precious tame went.

potential dinos to tame you spent hours gathering resources for and painstakingly avoiding dealing damage to so you can tranq them will literally seek out water to take a nap in. need i remind you, most of them breathe AIR, not water.

so they'll go and drown themselves and there goes your precious tame, because ♥♥♥♥ you.

traveling is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow and i don't think it's for realism. if you use cheats to fly around the game will stutter and lag like crazy trying to load in new areas of the map. why does a giant bird fly like a lump of lead with wings? well not because the bird isn't fast. game just can't handle it. yes yes yes technically you can bypass this in setting up the server but it's on by default for a reason and it's because this game is a messy unoptimized pile of ♥♥♥♥.

by far most of the time you spend playing this game will be trying to get from A - B on these slow ass dinos and not get killed in the process.

so yeah basically the thing you play this game for, to mess around and tame dinos to have them do stuff for you, is the most neglected area of this game by far. if you came here for looking for the dinos, just know they have 2003 video game AI and you'll be constantly attending to them to make sure you didn't lose a valuable dino to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rock in the middle of a field. and expect them to jump into volcanoes or drown themselves, whatever.

i have never been more glad i didn't pay for a game, because it's clear the developer didn't use any of the proceeds to improve the game, just add more maps for you to spend your money on.

uninstalled after my most recent 50ish hour solo playthrough. any fun i had was usually erased about 3 hours later due to some inevitable ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with these idiot dinos ai. disk space is literally better utilized storing cyberpunk 2077, at least cd projekt red bothered to try to fix their buggy ass game.

If you like cats, buy it. It's pretty accurate.
If you like cyberpunk aesthetics, buy it, it's very pretty.
If you like cute stuff, buy it, it's super cute.
Love this game. I completed it in just under 14 hours. Pretty worth though if you ask me.

Why haven't you bought this? This is a Kojima masterpiece. The last real MGS.

Better than any other singleplayer shooter I've seen. So fledged out and lots of replayability.

It's Hitman, Again!

Fresh new maps. May as well have released this as new content for the original. Same concept. Still great.

Infinite potential. You can play Rust in this game. For $10 you're buying like 200 games. No Steam library is complete without it.
