This is a really fun sandbox driving game. As is, the progression of the game sorta ends once you've found a nice car, cleaned it up, and shoved all the garbage you want in the back. You get a lot more fun out of the game pushing yourself to do difficult and stupid ♥♥♥♥. You could assemble the perfect speed demon car, laser focus on driving down the road fast as possible with no distractions, and get bored in an hour. OR... you could cram 10 rubber wives into your junker hippie-van, swapping whatever replacement parts you can fit on because you keep hitting light poles while you try to chug a beer and adjust your mirror at 120 km/h (There's a speedometer that measures in freedom units, but I threw it at an especially aggressive rabbit 5 miles ago).

I'm not a car guy, but for me the intricacy of the cars hits a perfect balance between realistic complexity and video-gamey fun. That's what makes forcing yourself to improvise so fun. I feel real pride when I manage to start a beater somebody left at a gas station because I found a beer bottle filled with gasoline in the store, swapped on some wheels from a nearby bicycle, and pissed in the empty coolant tank. That's sort of undermined right now by the fact I'll usually already have everything I need in my car, since I'm a hoarder. Hopefully there will be mechanics in the future that encourage starting over from scratch or something similar.

I'm excited to see what this game becomes in the future. It's made by a single dev right now, which is why the jank is so excusable.

A really good way to get behind on all your work because the guys at Liberation point NEEDED THESE SUPPLIES 5 MINUTES AGO AND WE'RE GONNA LOSE THE WHOLE DAMN WAR IF I DON'T GET THIS TRUCK TO GO 70 MPH WITH 1000 POUNDS IN THE BACK

Since our ancestors descended from the trees, an endless expanse of milky-white stars glistening in their eyes, humanity as a whole has wondered one thing in unison: What happens if you replace all of a guy's blood with acid? Wonder no longer, for the question is answered.

He go melty. He go melty big time.

This is a "hidden" gem. Two things to be warned about: This is, in multiple ways, a game for the type of people who bother to read in game notes. Lots of the fun of Prey relies on you giving the game your attention. Every blocked doorway or high-up ledge is a puzzle with many solutions, and you have to trust that your investigation and prodding is worthwhile and that the game will reward you. Talos 1 is an alive an intricate place to explore, and I can't stress enough how wonderfully hand-tailored it is to exploration.

The second thing is that fairly early on in the game something starts happening that can be stressful, and frankly clashes with the game's tendency to encourage taking your time to think things through. It was where my first playthrough ended. I'll word my advice for dealing with it as spoiler-free as possible, but I'll also put it behind a spoiler box in-case you REALLY want to go in blind:A thing will start "hunting" you at random intervals for the rest of the game, and once it spots you, you need to either kill it or stay hidden for 3 minutes. There is a quest you'll receive upon first contact called Mixed Signals that will give you a four-use repellent, but the best long term solution is to keep track of areas blocked off by doors that you are capable of locking from inside. Be warned, it can squeeze through doorways smaller than itself.

"combat" system is fun
very reasonable length game, especially if you play like a pacifist wink wink
genuinely funny jokes got me chuckling, chortling, and especially jejjing
solid game, it's too bad I took hate bandwagons with more than a grain of salt when it first came out.
okay see you later i'm gonna go play deltarune

Nice graphics, with some great commentary on Half-Life 2's development and impact. A great choice for a new Half Life 2 playthrough.
