Early Access Review
I have now been playing Battlegrounds more or less daily since I bought it and I've got to say... it is bloody fantastic.

- Are there bugs? YES, ITS EARLY ACCESS YOU NOOB
- Is optimisation progress good though? YES, THEY'RE CLEARLY WORKING HARD
- Are they prioritising new features over optimisation? NOPE, THANK GOD!

When you have a game that is designed by a big production company, a design studio with 40 teams of 40 people each, and they're all working to ensure they get their salary on time and their bonuses, not naming names *cough* EA *cough* Activision... then you have issues. The game will never be made for the players, because it's not made to please a customer, it's made to please the wallets of the creators.

When you get a game made by a player, someone who has spent years of his life playing games. Someone who started out in the business modding existing games, gets picked up to assist on a Battle Royale genre title and then leaves to pursue his own goal of making the best game he can with the skills he has learnt. THAT is when you get a good game... usually, I've not forgotton your treacherous ass Dean "cash thief" Hall...

My point remains though, Battlegrounds is a game for the players, currently it's a little bit casual, which is fine, 3rd person is a ♥♥♥♥♥ though, it rewards lack of skill and incompetency - but 1st person only servers will be here in the end of July update - so it's all gravy!

Last night, after a gruelling few hours on PUBG, i went downstairs to get a drink, as I walked into the kitchen I saw a frying pan on the cooker, and for a second, I almost picked it up and tucked it into the back of my trousers like I was going to crough run for cover behind the fridge!!!!

The game gets in your head, every time I die the first thing in my head is.... well honestly the first thing in my head is "F**K YOU 3RD PERSON, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HE WAS THERE THE WHOLE FU**ING TIME WATCHING ME WITH HIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ANGLE!!!!" but the second thing in my head is always "what did I do wrong, why did I die, how could I not die there next time?"

THAT is how you make a good game, the game should be predicated on getting better through improvement, there's no pay to win, there is no easy mode, there is no deranking to play with noobs, you can't smurf... you just have to get better, tweak settings to get a higher fps, go for sensible drop zones, play the circle, find the dips and crevasses and defelades to give you the best position to win a fire fight, good comms in team play. A good game is one where you get better with practice, and PUBG smashes that category!

BUY IT, ENJOY IT AND HOPEFULLY ONE DAY WE WILL HAVE AN EPIC FIREFIGHT IN THE TIGHT WINDING ALLEYWAYS OF PRIMORSK, OR THE TALL SPRAWLING APARTMENT BLOCKS OF YASNOYA! SEE YOU SOON!

A little long as reviews go, but stick with me... This game has taken such a beating over the last few days so lets address a few things!

- Could it have had a better release? YES.
- Could it have been a better pc port? GOD YES.
- Are they fixing things at an appropriate speed? YES SEEMS SO.
- Is it generally a playable game? YES FOR MOST PEOPLE.
- Is it enjoyable? YES, IF YOU LIKE SLOWER PACED GAMES.
- Is it beautiful? YES, WONDERFUL ART STYLE.
- Would it benefit from Multiplayer? GOD YES.

Technical Stuff
---------------------------
This game on release was buggy and glitchy, at low settings I found it very playable on a GTX 770ti SC with an i7. Around 60fps. Last night I installed the experimental test patch... I can now run it at 80fps on High/Ultra with absolutely no frame drops, no frame tearing, no crashes, I can tab in and out freely. I recorded it at 1080p and 60fps with no problems and streamed it for 2 hours with no issues.
If you're going to buy this game, install the experimental build, it may not work for everyone but it fixed all my problems so far and has made this a truly wonderful experience... If you want to install the patch - use the code "3xperimental" in the Betas tab of the game properties and then Opt In.

Gameplay
----------------------------
As for gameplay - IT IS SLOW. Don't be so stupid as to think you're playing Call of Duty; this is a slow paced exploration game with interjected fights with robots and creatures! If you want fast paced action and dog fights your a bit out of luck. Don't buy the game and then whinge its boring. The scenery is gorgeous - procedurally generated games tend to look very samey and lack quality to make them easier to build, this doesn't lack quality at all. Everything looks and feels very clean and beautiful. It definitely has some same old same old feeling after the first few planets, but there is enough to do to keep you busy!
This game can only get better with time, lets be honest, we've waited 3 years for a piss poor inadequate DayZ standalone game, I think we can cut a game that's been out of release for 5 days a little slack!

Overall
----------------------------
Overall I'd say current build is 7/10 with some room for serious improvement, but well worth a look in!

I've been playing Civilization since my Dad brought it home on Floppy Disk all those years ago... This is by far one of the best installments. I will never stop playing this game, even since having Beyond Earth... which is good too but, I will still always end up back here. Nothing better than getting 6 or more mates together and playing a giant map together for hours and hours and hours. Well worth every penny and currently on offer for under a tenner, get it now!!
