A must play if you are a fan of horror games. Seriously spooky ♥♥♥♥ that will make you savor the safe-room music like nothing else

If you're a fan of Miyazaki's previous games, then you should without a doubt play this one, but you probably already know that. The game is a fantastic souls-like that innovates on the genre while simultaneously keeping in touch with its predecessors. Though there is a lack of customization, unlike previous titles, what you get in return is a truly polished experience. The combat is fantastic, the level design is out of this world, and the bosses are a true joy to overcome. The story takes a larger presence here, and all for the better. Though not as cryptic as the SoulsBorne games, it is still very intriguing.
My only real complaints are the reuse of assets and the generosity of 'bonfires'. Given that you now have means to overcome death, I feel that the save points should be scarcer, however the opposite is true. There is very seldom a feeling of desperation to find somewhere to rest, like one had in the original dark souls. Furthermore, there are certain bosses and mini-bosses that show up a bit too often. In Dark Souls this was also the case, and one of the major downsides of that masterpiece, however it is taken to what feels like new heights in this game. It's not as bad as it could be of course, as these enemies are beautifully designed. I just wish there was more variety here.
All in all, very much a worthy successor to one of the best streak of games ever.

Too many survival-centric games feel unpolished and unoriginal; not this one though. There are many familiar concepts but with interesting new additions and an intriguing story to follow.

An easier and dumbed down version of Binding of Isaac. Just buy rebirth instead, and if you already have this will probably be of little joy.

+ Fun, creative and challenging gameplay
- Some NPC animations look extremely static
- Could definitely do with more visual options
- It is maybe a bit short, around 2 hours long
