Souls-like combat, BotW style exploration, a huge open world with 4 biomes, and a good mix of puzzle/platforming mechanics in dungeons to break up combat sections nicely.

Add to that a phenomenal building system complete with terraforming and yeah, this is pretty much my favourite game of all time. It's everything I've been looking for in one package.

Everything Diablo 3/4 should've been and more.

An incredible achievement that pushes the limits of modding to create a fantastic open-world RPG which builds on, and surpasses, Skyrim's core gameplay.

The dark, psychological narrative is a breath of fresh air for the genre, and it perfectly blends a believable, living world with traditional high fantasy elements.

100% recommended for fans of The Elder Scrolls, and role-players in general.

An incredible game and spiritual-successor to Demon's Souls, Dark Souls is an intense action RPG set in the land of Lordran. Explore a kingdom beset by a mysterious curse and the ever-present, lingering "threat" of the Dark, which is on the verge of consuming everything as the prosperous Age of Fire draws to a close.

Newly escaped from a prison at the edge of the world, you are charged with a quest to "save" the kingdom in whichever way you see fit; will you fight to keep the torch lit? Or will you douse the flame and let nature take its course?

The game offers virtually limitless choices when it comes to play-style. There's a vast arsenal of weapons, shields, spells, and armour available that lets you tweak and refine every aspect of your character to suit your personal tastes.

The world is deceptively large and completely seamless, allowing (and demanding) thorough exploration. The story is intentionally ambiguous, and allows you to draw your own conclusions based on item descriptions, cryptic hints from NPCs, and whatever else you can infer from objects placed around the world. But beware, danger lurks behind every corner.

Online play comes in the form of co-op and PVP. If you're having difficulty with a particular area or boss, summon a friend into your world and engage in jolly co-operation! Or, if you're itching for a fight, Dark Souls encourages you to invade other worlds (and even be invaded yourself). Duke it out for that most precious of resources, Humanity, as well as tokens specific to whatever Covenant you decided to represent, which you can exchange for greater power.

With endless possibilities and a very difficult, highly-rewarding experience guaranteed, you'll be playing this game for a very long time. And there's always something new to discover no matter how far you venture.

A much more cohesive and satisfying sequel than Dark Souls II.
