This game only allows for ONE controller input.
No, I'm not talking about "Keyboard and mouse not allowed", Litterally only ONE controller setting is functional in this game. The xbox controller. As of this review the dualshock, along with many others, other than the xbox controller, does NOT work.
I know this game is good. I know people think its good. If they fix this, good on them. But I CANNOT. IN GOOD CONSCIENCE give this game a thumbs up. There's day one bugs but you'd expect the game to be in a state where you can um... oh i dunno ACTUALLY PLAY IT?

This is mainly a review for xen. this review is short and sweet.
I love it
the environment is beutiful and the unique way it was handled very superb. The final boss battle was a masterpeice, and gman's voice actor on point. the years of waiting werent for nothing.

Came here for a small mod.
Exited feeling as though I found a gem.
Dont get me wrong the level design is iffy, especially past the mid-point but the charm is just there. The protagonist, bad cop, is a pleasure to play as. Every snide comment making me chuckle.

Exactly how i left it back in my xbox days. singleplayer is iconic and the multiplayer is as addicting as ever, me personally im working towards getting armor effects, and that cool lookin' skull helmate.

Im also personally excited of what will become of the custom match feature, and eventually what will be made with forge.

It is a brilliant strategy game -- and with it's expansion the 'war of the chosen' it is even better.
While i am still getting my barings, my actions have never felt daunting to me -- in fact the game makes a point to remind you that your actions have consequences fairly frequently.

Im in love with the system of recruiting and promoting soldiers, so much so that i feel i am not emotionally equipped to actually deal with their deaths. The first death i got was from one of my favorite snipers, doing amazingly and always ensuring they are alive -- but i made one risk that got her killed and it absolutely crushed me. to the point of actually uninstalling the game for a little bit in denial-induced anger, before calming down and continuing my game.

All in all -- want a good strategy game with permanant consequences for your actions? get this game.
Want to emotionally break down as your soldiers and -- dare i say -- friends die in front of you? Get. this. game.

Gameplay:
Pretty solid - the only bug i've encountered was when an enemy was turning sideways, and going into the floor. Remember all those memes that said this is basically dark souls? well it is, sorta. Though the dark souls elements are sound - with the stims taking place as estus, and the target locking similar to the series -- im also seeing some elements of sekiro as well, with the prominence of parrying being basically a necessity to defeat most enemies. the difficulty is there too, however this title is much more forgiving -- with there being no fall damage, and you only needing to hit enemies once to regain xp health and crap. hell, i even got all that back by leaving an area so i dont see a point in the feature, if that's going to be the case. There's also an uncharted-like parkour system, if a bit downgraded, though i am surprised at the similarities between the two games when it comes to climbing.
While combat will get boring eventually -- i cant express this enough that it is kinda fun. Simple parry then attack system with bits of evading away from unblockable attacks. The powers are fun to use, with force slow being a favorite. The kill animations look decent.
Customisation:
Quote ea saying "THERE WILL BE. NO. MICROTRANSACTIONS"
Well... that is true, but you locked away a crystal color through a pre-order. i wonder wether or not people who havent pre-ordered will be getting that soon. well, apart from that the customization is solid - if a bit boring, for the time i'm playing. I hear you can get a pink crystal so that might be good -- though i would've wanted a red crystal, or maybe the crystals with the dark inner bits in it.
Story:
Not gone pretty far to experience ALL of it, but its cliche at best, at least for star wars; One man hiding as a jedi gets found out, goes on adventure with convenient rebel saviours, and attempts to re-establish the jedi order. Maybe theres more to this? gotta wait and see.

Map/planet design:
I doubt it. So far everything has been pretty linear. even with branching paths, most of them arent available until you get a certain power -- and you usually get said power on the same map, which establishes an area to go in order to progress. Save from a couple of avenues of exploration -- dont expect death stranding levels of exploration, more of a... jedi knight outcasts style of map design -- not to compare the two titles that is.

Questions/concerns:
Does this have microtransactions: for now, no.
WILL this have microtransactions: Maybe. they might do something with the lightsaber customisation. wouldnt hold it against EA.
Can you dismember troopers like in other games?: No, but for some reason you can with animals. Though no matter how you swing its always one direction which is pretty annoying if you pay attention to it.

Conclusion
All in all, a solid game -- little bugs so far, surprisingly but i can see myself getting bored with this either pretty soon or much later on. Also, It's an EA game. Dont expect much for the future of this game -- bug fixes? probably. microtransactions later on? ... probably. Still, i'm enjoying myself so far and kinda wanna see how this story ends. If you came for a star wars jedi knight-like game, you will be disapointed. Come from dark souls? you'l probably enjoy this, despite its connection to ea.
