It's bearable, now. Sort of. Exocraft are fun, farming is rewarding and photomode gives good backgrounds.

OLD REVIEW:
I was heavily excited for this game; sold on the amazing space battles that could occur, the thought of discovering everything on a planet hundeds of time over, upgrading my ship and tools to do everything faster or just go around trading and making millions.
I made an attempt to watch every single bit of gameplay on youtube just to sate the hype, think that could be me in just a matter of weeks.
I nearly had to save every last cent I had just to buy this game, because it looked so damn good.

But it wasn't*.

For 60 dollars, I was expecting more than this. The PC optimisation is completely piss poor. The planets have the same textures reused quadrillions of times. The lack of communication and ambiguous feedback on malfunctioning or non existing features has left us wondering. The inventory size is smaller than an elementary schooler's backpack front pocket.

*However the game does have its merits and I am on the fence with this review. Some of the views are breathtaking, the procedural generation can be stunning and the trading system is intuiative. There are many good features of this game but are unfortunately offset by the many minor to major turn-offs that make this game unenjoyable at its current stage,

If changes were to be made in favor of the community's opinion to improve the game then I would be happy to change this review. I've decided to wait it out a few patches for performance improvements, bug/crash fixes, more feedback and gameplay tweaks before I pick the game up again, I do not recommend that you do either unless you want to deal with these constant annoyances.

For a free game, it's really worth the download.

I see a lot of promise in this game. At its current state, the combat is laggy, some stuff is imbalanced, and it's too easy to lose what you've worked for. However, the developers are working to release an update almost once a week, and every update comes with adding some new stuff, works to combat hackers, FPS improvements and bug fixes. I am confident that Codehatch can use this title to escape the bad reputation they gained from Starforge which didn't live up to community expectations, and that Reign of Kings will be the perfect balance of combat, resource gathering and base construction.
