Combat is terrible
Quicktime events are irritating but can be turned off
Storyline is ok

You are better off just watching cutscenes on youtube than playing the actual game.

Updated:

My original review said to wait, as there wasn't any rush to get it. The wait was worth it, as a lot of the issues I had with the game have since been fixed. The perk system has been overhauled, the loot system the same, the open word seems to have improved a lot.

Originally I stated that the core gameplay was fun though slightly repetitive. I stand by that. The atmosphere does seem to have been improved by the improvements to the open word, although I haven't played enough of the game since restarting to form enough of an opinion.

The game does feature some excellent writing, and voice acting, but the writing is perpendicular to rather than in line with the game and story. The core game itself and the storyline is dull, which is a shame. it wears the clothes of an abitious RPG but is a rather shallow and pointless journey from nowhere to nowhere by plodding around trying on different items of clothing.

I really wanted to love this but don't unfortunately. A lot of heart and love has been poured in, and I wish it was all as good as the first hour or so.

Absolutely fantastic but slightly janky cross between Fallout and Stalker.

You play as a jackbooted oppressor suffering from episodes of psychosis, stuck on a slowly decaying monolithic spacecraft/megacity, that has been drifting through space for that past 400 years. Your character fully expects to live out his short brutal life between the stars, in a grimy, neon-lit, dystopian struggle for survival.

From that grim start it soon gets even more grim and compelling.

Kenshi is a benchmark to which other games can only aspire to be compared. Kenshi offers a completely unique experience and belongs in the library of anyone has has ever uttered just wondered in a game "Which can't just..." In Kenshi you can; it will probably mean having your arm ripped off and then tossed out in the desert to bleed out, starve to death, be eaten by cannibals, pressed into slavery, torn apart by wild dogs, or all of the above, but Kenshi but doesn't just offer you freedom it shows you how painful and desolate true freedom really is.

This review is dependant upon using the chatcodes in order to increase skillpoints at the start. Without doing that I can't recomend the game.

I played this game during beta and, although it is a solid RPG with a good storyline, the decision was made to restrict skillpoints so heavily that min-maxing was required to play the game at all. Essentially going on feedback from people who knew the game inside out they made it so you need to know the game inside out to succeed. This was a poor design choice for a game which is otherise very good.

So- add an extra 100 to 200 skillpoints at the start and play it like a normal RPG where you can both talk to people and not have to min-max just to get through the game.
