Check the playtime, I have enough hours to have some idea of what this game is like.

Overall -- very good game. Not perfect, it has some flaws, but it executes on the core loop very, very well. It is not the deepest roguelike which is what makes it one of my favorite "unwind" games.

A lot of reviews complain about the levels being dark/hard to see, and they are -- in the options menu you can adjust the gamma and contrast much better. It does require trial and error, but so does the entire game.

There is a learning curve to figure out what weapons/power-ups are worth a damn, how enemies operate, the types of rooms you can get, which enemies are deceptively dangerous run-killers (hint: it's the flies), standard roguelike stuff.

The item balance is pretty good, but some options are going to be obviously superior and I find myself defaulting to them every run unless I'm deliberately challenging myself, which is hard because this game can be very unforgiving if you fall.... out of rhythm (I'm not sorry).

There also isn't a lot of documentation for items I could find online, so you really will have to make your best guesses.

The character unlocks do add some real replayability, although I get stuck at Odr because the final boss has an attack I always soak on other runs, and Odr does not allow for that... such is life.

Overall if you think this is your thing and it's at a reasonable price point for you, check it out, and be prepared to grit your teeth until you acclimate.

If not, totally valid but I hope you give this one a shot because it really is one of the best choices I made in the last few years.

I was skeptical of the DLC but you get great value for the money. Bullet points b/c if you're reading this then you're an adult:

* The new weapon is a bit game-breaking but it does add a much-needed energy weapon to the arsenal.
* The Vehicle sections are fun and you can get out and play sections on-foot, which you will feel like doing.
* The new maps are very well-designed and the item layouts are much better. I didn't feel like I was rationing my ammo at all on Wanton Carnage.
* The new grenade types -- cluster and gas -- are fantastic additions, although the gas hits you a bit hard.
* The new enemies add exactly what you want, although those Chopping Mall robots are a bit of a bear.
* The secrets aren't quite as cryptic as the main campaign and the super-secrets are worth finding.

Overall yeah, great time. Wish there were even more. Hope the Voidpoint team does something good.

This game is great, so this review is for JSRF fans who might be on the fence.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk isn't a simple reskin, although it doesn't try to reinvent the wheel.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has iterative improvements:

* Manuals allow for sustaining combos from rail to rail
* Wall rides are much smoother.
* Health regenerates
* No more spray cans, you have infinite paint.
* The tag mechanic is a good hybrid of JSR and JSRF's while being distinct.
* You can fight cops hand to hand if you want, and the escalation is more predictable.
* Character swapping is easier in the map.
* The maps are comprehensible without losing some of that labyrinthine charm.
* Pipelines are easier to combo with.
* Inverts pause you and give you a moment to catch your breath.
* The boost system is much more important.
* A nice horizontal double-jump for all characters.
* Solid fast-travel system
* Good variety of collectibles
* The mobile phone with a map and music selector is great.
* The Robot Buddies add a nice mini-challenge to every map. I wish there were more of them.

Gripes:
* The heat system can be a bit of a chore when you're cleaning up graffiti but a changing station isn't close.
* Mataan takes a minute before it flows more naturally.
* Why can't we swap bike/skates/board in the map? Why do we have to go all the way to the hideout?
* Combos for the final unlockables are pretty steep unless you really know how to use boost tricks and corners for high points.
* No seriously why can't we switch vehicles in the map?
* The dream sequences are good and fun, but on a first playthrough you often don't want to deal with it.
* Boss fights are still pretty weak, as is tradition.

None of these are serious problems though. If you loved JSRF, you'll love this. The story is fleshed out. The characters are a wonderful bunch of dorks. The music is as good as ever, rivaling and even surpassing JSRF in places. The maps are so much fun with interesting nooks and crannies.

Really, support this game. Team Reptile really delivered.

Early Access Review
Good atmosphere, good physics and overall UI/UX experience, and good monsters.

That said I would appreciate some way to deal with the monsters more thoroughly. The library monster and the doll are a hassle and a half.

Fantastic shorter game to play alone or with friends. Excellent production and cast. Some very minor quibbles but ultimately the reviews are right and you should play it. Errant Signal was right-- this is a great Halloween classic.

Actually a good game. Friendly and accessible to fighting game newbies with a lot of personality.

Excellent game, gets a full recommendation.

It's Donkey Kong Country 2.5: Dixie Kong goes Brazilian, with a good helping of Rayman. It honors those influences.

If you understood that sentence, buy it right away. It is modest, don't get me wrong, but it is modest in the best way-- it puts all of its resources into the exact right places. The gamefeel, the aesthetics, the music, it's all so good.

I wasn't a big fan of the final level where you have to boss rush in stages in one life, but that is par for the course for DKC and Rayman.

My biggest complaint is simply that I wish there was more! More vegetables! More levels! More masks! More story! Animal buddies! A companion to trade out with Kaze!

And to top it all off it's a wonderful Brazilian game! Viva o Brasil! My deepest love, respect, and admiration for all the developers in Porto Alegre. I really hope you've all been given a fair deal, and if nothing else can look at this work with pride as a good experience.

Look, the games themselves are what they've always been, but for $20 the lack of savestates or even an ability to go back to the main menu to select a new game is terrible, especially given how these games are infamously frustrating. Also no Rondo of Blood?

Pick this up if it's on exceptionally deep discount, no higher than $5. Otherwise you could very easily get all those QoL features I mentioned for essentially free via other means.

Ok you're reading Steam reviews for a 2018 retro racer in 2022 or beyond. You didn't arrive here accidentally. You know what the ♥♥♥♥ you're doing. You have to ask "Does the game scratch the nostalgia itch?" and "Is it still fun enough to play even after the itch has been scratched?"

In the case of Slipstream, both questions get an unambiguous "yes" and this game has my full recommendation even at current full price ($10.00 USD of writing) IF you are down with this style.

Is it perfect? No. The AI can be harsh, especially early on, and it's a particular flavor of 80s and 90s SEGA/Citypop aesthetics that you either immediately like or you don't. If you feel neutral, you should try it but if the mood isn't grabbing you then don't stick with it.

That said it is the best Outrun clone I've played in many years. The 32-bit graphical style is excellent, the music is all appropriate and doesn't feel repetitive, the addition of rivals and various modes are great, and I really love the stage selection choice. The controls are tight and do exactly what they need to do, and the titular Slipstream mechanic adds just the right amount of complexity and lessens the flaws of the original Outrun series without diminishing the original's core appeal.

When the biggest complaints you have are "I wish they had online play" and "I'd love to see even more stage/tracks/cars" then you know a game is doing something right.

Excellent action game with tight mechanics and superlative presentation. Doesn't take itself seriously but also puts the extra work in to be the best experience it can with the time it has.

When the biggest complaint you have about a game is that you wish there were more, it's a really good game.
