A riot romp every dive of the way. Ichiban kusoge slop. Hard to find much better.
Posting this one to counteract the orbital review bomb.

Please, for the love of god, don't beef it again, snoy.

What a truly unique and intense experience.

Some people might find the disjointed storytelling to be confusing, but I enjoy the theme of piecing together a memory of who exactly you might be making things the way they might be.
It's a visceral experience full of impact and violence within an extremely unique art style that personally speaks to me from my own way of drawing things. It's distinctly beautiful in its readability and sometimes, lack thereof, fully embracing its nature of depicting memories broken apart.

Ultimately, you are who you are, and you evolve and you fight and you keep going.

As for the actual game, customizable controls are very welcome, although the heavy attack being linked to the exit menu button is somewhat funny.
The Virtue system is really interesting in its point-buy and different unique effects, the various different combinations of Paradigms and they way they can interact lends well to different playstyles and movesets, and the Familiars all have their little advantages, although I find that Heal's value is significantly higher than most, considering its low investment. I find myself returning to it sometimes, and just enjoying a quick violent romp as my little angel. My only complaint is feeling like the parry response was somewhat inconsistent at times, but for most enemies it was perfectly fair. I really enjoy the Sekiro-esque reflect and stagger system.

If you enjoy "soulslike" gameplay and want a surreal, heartfelt, and both figuratively and literally impactful slugfest of a game, then do check this one out. I logged like 6-7ish hours just going through the game on Normal, and Hard/Challenging exist for the more intrepid martyrs who want to go for more.

I don't know if the devs check out recent reviews, but I do want to provide a heartfelt thanks for the message at the end of the game! This is one of those experiences that will stick with me and inspire things going forward.

the year is 198X and john microsoft has developed microsoft 2.

chaos reigns after machines experience jealousy that only humanity is allowed to have animated avatars on discord.

god is reborn as invader zim, but with a typo, giving you clarity amidst the bloody genocide of humanity for their transgressions.

play as a variety of fax machines capable of firing guns, and occasionally exploding if you hit them hard enough.

fight your way to the hell machine that intends to make everyone run linux, located at the top of amazon headquarters, and stop john microsoft’s evil plan.

on the way there:
- pet a roomba
- shoot a gun
- sell black market teleporter for the 20th time come on you’re not a coward it’s free money we all know that
- build a lego set for emotional support
- talk to god and get your prayer slapped away
- inject meth directly into your eyeballs
- find your heart again

“my god. we really are synthetik”

space is cool, you can be a murderer, or you can just be a space trucker. you can look at your ship all around and see your little menus.
there is a lot of currency to earn but the currency is only one currency instead of 20 different currency.

i like that you can also go ramming speed and hit someone. cool space.

Drenched in explosive mechanized violence, pulsating synth, and beautifully-established atmosphere, follow the path of a group of mercenaries dedicated toward cutting a swath of criminal destruction through the city of Solo Nobre.

Level city blocks with a single mortar, fire shark gas that melts concrete and metal, or use a humble gamma emitter to decimate the forces that dare to stand before your lucrative rampage.

Spend your hard-earned money on intricately written lore about your setting, from why the humble civilian dons a raincoat to massive artillery platforms from a spaceborne culture of hedonists.

Great Leader has fallen.

...About sick cyborg action and punchy guns.
ALSO LONG REVIEW

GITS: SAC - FAO is a fun little shooter with just enough cyberpunk and just enough of everything to make it feel close to a shooter that distinguishes itself from its competition.
As a F2P shooter, it does so rather well.

Graphics are pretty nice, with a tinge of PS2-ness that may or may not charm you. Environments have little details that don't cause much distraction, and the world geometry is fun to traverse for the most part. However, the lack of player ragdolls on death has a tendency to cause you to clip through stuff when you die, which is a bit immersion-breaking.

Guns have pleasant firing noises and everything packs a solid punch, from your dinky pistol to the heavy-hitting LMGs. At the very least, everything feels like it can kill, and generally can providing you can hit your targets.
Gunplay is a somewhat peculiar mix of COD and CSGO, with aiming down sights providing you a CSGO-esque firing pattern that you can try to compensate for in the brief twitch moment. While a bit frustrating that you can't just blast people on picking the game up, it does encourage more skilled play than running and gunning like a maniac.

Overall, most guns are balanced, with some exceptions feeling like they might be more potent than they should be due to the attachment system.
Said attachment system allows you to modify the damage, recoil, and other aspects of your weapons. This can cause shotguns to have a higher one hit kill range, with the same applying to sniper rifles, which is only a bit upsetting.
That, and a bipod decreases recoil on your guns even though you don't actually set up on anything, so that's a bit silly.

At least they actually added the Seburo gun from the animu.

The skill system provides another unique aspect of the game, making it similar to the powerhouse that is Overwatch, allowing you to have skills that can also be shared to "change the tide of battle", or something to that effect.
Effects range from pinging a wallhack to being able to just fire an instant kill rocket from your arm, so there's a generally wide variety to choose from. Nanogel armor is a bit ridiculous, but aim for the head, I guess.

The game is not without flaws, as you likely surmised from the Mixed reception.
  • Certain maps cause spawn trapping rather readily if one team is particularly skilled, others have partially broken spawns that cause you to get mowed down out of the gate despite being scattered around.
  • Map design also has inconsistent levels of enjoyment, with some having excellent pacing and are set up with dynamic hotzones in mind, while others suffer from the tedium of being in the same areas and shooting people there again and again.
  • Also, the game modes are not currently separated, so the playlist is dependent on what people vote for. Good luck getting into the Demolition/Terminal Conquest modes, which I personally find cater to the game's aesthetic far more than just mowing people down/getting mowed down in TDM.
  • While they did improve hit detection, the server/client connection can occasionally cause opponents to slide around a bit, making shooting a bit frustrating.
  • Microtransactions are pretty expensive.

Regardless, the game has improved over a decent amount of time, with feedback constantly being reviewed and changes being implemented on a fairly regular basis, which is something to appreciate.
While I haven't put all that much time into the game, it's still something I enjoy picking up to play, and with it being F2P, there's not really a reason not to give it a shot for a couple hours.

    Dive, dive, dive.
