DD2 impresses during the initial honeymoon period. It becomes evident quickly the game has very little depth to offer. With only two attack types and four special abilities to equip, combat quickly devolves into just spamming one attack chain over and over vs spongy bosses who normally don't even seem to react to whats going on.

The quests and story are awful, Especially the "stealth quests" which may be the worst quests in rpg history.

All drama aside, its very mediocre. The combat/game play loop is initially kinda fun, but it essentially doesn't change beyond the player acquiring new spells. New enemy types are sorely needed. You just want to skip through it by the end of the game

The best content are the relationship quests and the main quest line, but even this content is hampered by the relatively poor writing. There is essentially only one interesting side character (Sebastian). The quests involving him inform the player about the world and there's even a bit of player agency involved.

If you only know about Harry Potter through cultural osmosis like myself, a lot of the basic rules and customs are never adequately explained. I would have loved to know more about the Goblin/Elf status in the world and the dark arts. unfortunately we only get about 1 or two conversations about these things, even through they are key part of the plot.

A lot of the development time was clearly spent on the room of requirement stuff. I really thought all of that was a waste of time, but it may have a lot of appeal to people who like building things.

Overall its pretty meh.

Well, the gaming industry makes about 1 good CRPG a year. If you have any interest in the genre then this is all you got to choose from anyway.

Always nice to have more portraits, Not sure why this was added via DLC instead of a patch, but I suppose it doesn't matter.

Theres nothing here to recommend this game over any other CRPG I've ever played. Only buy it if youre extremely bored.

A lot of potential, but early access isn't worth purchasing atm. Will update after later patches
