Back in the day, the required process of accessing Steam felt risky and the lack of installation disks made me cringe. What if Steam wasn't there when I needed? The digital-download and log-in-to-play features were new. I was sceptical of its future and veered away.

3 years later, 2006, an on-line-ad caught my eye; Half-Life 2 Boxed w/Installation Disks. It may have been a sale, I can't recall, but I jumped on it. 'Steam Account Required'. What? No. Son-of-a-&!^@#. Steam account created....
