TL;DR: If you love Bethesda games because of their clockwork game worlds driven by their radiant AI systems, you will be completely disappointed. I wished I refunded it but I purchased it on an external site.

I don't usually write proper reviews, but I think the public reception has skewed abit too fanatical at the moment and people who actually enjoy the studio's games should know, this is not " just a Bethesda game in space " that people are touting as, nor is it the studio's most in depth RPG, it is infact the complete opposite.

The backbone of what makes a Bethesda game, a Bethesda game is straight up not in this game. In Starfield, The NPCs are non reactive, they don't follow any schedule and stand around like quest givers from an MMORPG.
E.g; If you want to play a pirate and wait for an NPC to leave the bar to pickpocket him, that's not happening, because he is never leaving.
If you enter an NPC's home at 3 am, he is always awake and more than happy to greet you as if you didn't just completely invade their personal space.
All these compounded, makes the world feel incredibly static and lifeless.

Your space ship is not an extension of yourself, you can play the game without ever really being in your ship that much because the game let's you fast travel from location to location with ease, What ends up happening, is you teleport everywhere and the world feels incredibly small, because it takes little effort to travel great distances. You also can't RP and play a no fast travel run, because your ship does not actually travel manually, you cannot move between planets in a solar system, you can only hover in empty space and shoot debris or fight with space pirates that sometimes spawn for you. You can't even do the thing where you set your ship to auto pilot and work on some other things on your ship because the moment you step away from your cockpit, your ship completely stops.

Exploration is so completely farcical and pointless. Everything you encounter on a planet you land on, is procedurally generated, and it sure does feel procedurally generated. Land on a planet, and immediately your scanner picks up on different POIs in your surrounding area you can run to. It is always the same few things, natural formations for you to scan, a base to fight some pirates, a cave to explore with no real reason to explore. They do not have any conclusions, many make me wonder why I even bothered to "explore" them. They are no replacements for hand written quests.

All in all, this is a complete regression of the systems previously in The Elder Scrolls and the Fallout games, and I never expected Bethesda to cut their most unique game design feature in Starfield. Save the money and wait for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 I guess?
