Comments: Banished is a very solid game with lots of replayability, it is quite difficult and requires independent research into the major mechanics as the in game tutorial does not ready you for how quickly things can go wrong and at times is much more of a strategic resource allocator then a city builder. Though don't let that dissuade you as the feeling of how the game functions does come quick and is a lot of fun to think your way through, though some save scumming is necessary to ensure population survival at points just because something major can always strike and the grind to late game can be intense. If you don't like management like games this will not be for you. But if that is your type of game I can very easily see someone going for 1000+ hours. I will continue to put more time into it myself as even at 25 hours I haven't earned a single achievement. A word of advice for new players: Educate your damn citizens, and do not knock the value in the trading post.

The tutorials are very fast and after you finish them there is very little direction given to you on how to proceed. I have played further and you can figure it out just trying different things. I am actually making some progress now, and I find myself enjoying the challenge.

One of my all time favorite games. Good three song sound track, slow paced and fun achievements. If you ever get bored of any of those three the game allows you to still enjoy it without them (just use youtube for music and you will see a dramatic improvement)

The game itself might require a small amount of knowledge ahead of time but once you figure out what works you can fairly easily replicate it across various playthroughs. The game has a variety of mods if you get bored of the vanilla version and a nice little community that still plays. Very fun game, worth the price even in 2026 [year of review if for some reason in the distant future steam removes timestamps for whatever reason].
