Nothing scratches the city builder itch like Banished. There's a reason it inspired just about every city builder that came out since its release 10+ years ago, and there's a reason people still play it today, despite all those similar games that have come out since. If you like sandbox(ish) games, resource management, and watching a city grow, Banished will quickly become your go-to comfort game.

If you're looking for something with clearly defined progression (technology trees, policies, concrete goals, etc), you will, tbh, probably hate it. Banished is very open ended; the only limits placed on expansion are the resources you have at any given time. This is something a lot of people love about the game, I could also see it being a drawback for some.

You'll need mods to keep things interesting long term, but there's a great community around Banished with plenty to offer.

One of my all time favorites (check the playtime), highly recommend.
