Yes, I have mastered space and time. For better or worse. Usually worse.
Just because I've played a game a lot doesn't mean it's any good. Also: Idling.

My RIG:
Case: Fractal Design R5 Define with 6 x Noctua Fans

Mainboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero

PSU: beQuiet 850W Dark Power Pro 11

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 @ 4,1 Ghz Allcore (initially bought as a temporary unit but I kind of never could be bothered to replace it since 2018)

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition @ 1936 Mhz core + 12 Ghz memory clock + 0.95V undervolt (chip can do 2028 stable, but gets too hot on air and clocks down to the minimum of 1936 anyway, so I just kept it there)

RAM: 64 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 @ 3200 CL 16 (I'm amazed I got a maximum stack of double row Hynix Dies working at their stock settings in the first place)

Drives: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 NVMe, Sandisc Ultra 2 960GB SSD, 3TB of ancient HDDs I practically don't use and no optical drive since 2015

Mouse: Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury

Webcam: Logitech C920

I am more than over it.

After more than twenty years of gaming and the ever encroaching content entitlement, this game managed to teach me patience once again. A game with absolutely frustrating mechanics, which still solely rely on skill of and mistakes made by the player. The mechanics are crazy, but they are consistent and after I had played 6 hours, I was able to literally fly up the mountain. The next 20 hours I spent starting from scratch hundreds of times, but getting better and better with the ridiculous controls. After 50 hours, I made it to the top. And then I did it again. And again. And again. I'm not sure if I had fun playing this, I actually didn't, but it was a very special experience in one regard: The game didn't change, but I did. The game never got easier. But I got better. There was no better gear to get, no level up, no easy mode. It was always the same challenge and you would fail, fail, fail and then fail some more, until you actually managed to get past one obstacle, manage it past the next one, getting excited, and then made a mistake that put you right at the beginning once again.

This is probably the most brutally unforgiving game I have ever played. No checkpoints, no joy, no leniency. I wanted to throw my hardware out of the window so many times, but every time I had to start right at the beginning once more, something made me not just extremely furious and hurt, but also made me want to persevere. And this is something I had almost forgotten I was even capable of after so many years of gaming.

While I consider this the most sadistic game in the entire history of gaming, I also consider it one of the most remarkable concepts regarding game mechanics I have ever seen.

I have played thousands of games in my life so far and will probably play just as many in the next couple of decades, but this game, I will always remember.

Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy made me hate this game so much that after so many years of open world and the same things over and over again, gaming is finally fun again. For that, I heartfully want to thank Bennett Foddy.

That being said, Bennett Foddy, if we ever cross paths, I will punch you in the balls so hard that your great-great-grandchildren will still have their ears ringing from your pain. And then I will shake your hand, thanking you personally for making me enjoy games a lot more again. And then I'll punch you in the balls some more, just for good measure.
