Early Access Review
My favourite rogue-lite since Dead Cells and one of my favourite games of 2023! It's like a more precise Binding of Isaac with a super minimal art style. Love the music, love the progression, love the massive variety in all aspects. Super excited to see where this game continues to go in 2024. Absolutely worth - go for it!

Great rogue-lite. Pixel-art is awesome; gameplay and control are tight; 144hz support for low motion-blur and input lag. Tons and tons of depth and replay value. Music is catchy goodness.

Downsides: quite hard; progress can be slow (it's not like something like Hades where you unlock major upgrades), major progress is made through skill learned over time. Well that's not a downside for everyone, just something to be aware of. Cannot save anytime during a run, has to be in-between floors.

Even at full price, $17 CAD this is absolutely well worth it.

Fun game to play with kids. Very peaceful, low difficulty. Beautiful graphics. It's quite a short game so don't expect a in-depth experience.

Also I played with mouse + keyboard and it was mostly fine so don't stress if you don't have a controller.

Very fun game. Amazing pixel art, great Disasterpeace music. You can beat it in about 5-6 hours but 100% probably at least 10 hours. Other than combat, much of the whole game is exploring and hunting down secrets.

The story is told mostly with imagery and flashbacks, no text. The main downside of the game is the story imagery all looks great and seems like it's leading towards something big, but never really does. It just kind of fizzles out. Definitely a case of style over substance. But that is not at all a reason to avoid playing this awesome game!

This is one of the best games of 2019 for sure. And of of the best 2D action/platformers I've ever played.

If you are a fan of Dark Souls, just stop - buy now. You won't be disappointed. The main thing is the combat and the platforming. And it's tight. It's exactly what you want from a 2D Dark Souls experience.

The world-building is also completely on-point. It loops back on itself in a very similar way to Dark Souls 1. It's satisfying.

The pixel art is absolutely jaw-droppingly incredible. It holds up against the best the genre has ever seen.

I have two main complaints with the game. Firstly, the story and imagery is very very dark, even by Dark Souls standards. Some people will be turned off by this. That's not really the problem, the problem is moreso the story is just a bit too impenetrable. I've taken university-level English but I'm still somewhat at a loss figuring out what's going on. Maybe a second playthrough (Devs give us NG+!!!) would illuminate things but on first playthrough it's extremely hard to follow.

Secondly at some point support for high-frame rates was dropped. So its 60FPS capped. I really, really wish the devs can figure out a way to support high-frame rates again, so we can enjoy this masterpiece with no motion blur and reduced input lag.

Awesome replayable rogue-like deckbuilder. Kind of like a mixture of Binding of Isaac and Hearthstone. Initially the art style put me off a bit, but honestly now I appreciate it's uniqueness.

This is a really unique pixel art horror game with an amazing atmosphere and incredible sound design. It is presented in episodic format with four total episodes in Season One.

Originally I played the first two episodes on the developers site, in Flash format. Eventually, I think all these free episodes were taken down and only the single prologue remains now. Anyway, I bought this in order to play the final two episodes. You can expect to get about 3-5 hours of gameplay out of all the episodes, and the extras.

I have to say that the game starts very strong but doesn\'t end as well as I\'d like. The first two episodes are high points. They have a great setting, interesting dialogue, some very scary moments and some unexpected jump scares.

The third episode is the weakest. The art is pretty bad, and it\'s very dark (in colour). In the end the episode doesn\'t add much to the plot either.

The final episode is just ok. I will reserve judgement on the ending itself (which is fairly unsatisfying) until I play Season Two. I guess that tells you what I think of The Last Door in summary: it\'s a decent adventure game that could have been much better had the quality of the first two episodes been maintained. However, the game is good enough that I am still intrigued enough to want to play Season Two and see how the plotline wraps up!

Story is excellent and graphics are awesome. But its a step down from the original Bioshock otherwise, in terms of exploration, combat etc. I'd recommend it, if you can find a good deal on it though (like under $25).

Absolutely awesome adventure game (at least the first two episodes I've played). Well worth the money even at regular price. Its actually quite a bit better than the TV show!

Very fun, 3rd-person tower defence! It gets quite challenging, and there are many different strategies to kill the Orcs. Fun stuff, and great value especially if you get it on sale.
