Early Access Review
Rough to start with, definitely take it slow. Love the community so far, people are generally chill.

Hilarious fun just banging around finding new things to try and new things to obtain.

Pretty awesome game, just sucks that some of the animations are fixed-duration, meaning that you can't chain certain actions together without going through the full animation cycle. Some of the captains are a pain to kill, but otherwise a great game.

As far as Diablo-style clones go, it plays well and doesn't demand a lot in graphics power to play. Worth playing even as a "freemium" game.

Being honest, I'm unsure if I can recommend Destiny 2. The current crop of PvE activities are certainly interesting, but the largest problems are with Destiny 2's PvP playlist activities. Stasis is LESS of a problem now, but some of the worst matches I've played have been with over-represented weapons such as Dead Man's Tale, The Chaperone, 120 Round-Per-Minute (RPM) Handcannons (revolvers like Steady Hand and Igneous Hammer), and shotguns (such as Astral Horizon and Felwinter's Lie).

UPDATE: DMT got a "nerf", as did a few other weapons (120 handcannons, pellet shotguns, etc.) but some weapons are about to receive (or have received) a serious buff. Tarrabah is back to Recluse levels of overpowered and _will_ clap you.

The gameplay has not varied much since the release of Beyond Light, which is both a blessing and a curse: you know what to expect, but often what you expect is to get steamrolled by players who clearly haven't seen the light of the Sun in weeks.

UPDATE: """Matchmaking""" in Control is not fun for anyone playing "late night" in US time zones. Control _desperately_ needs a combination of CBMM and SBMM. Or a "ranked" Control with unique rewards. This is ridiculous.

UPDATE #2: 6th month of a 3 month """season""" (WQ delayed), player pop is at it's lowest point, and the only people left playing are the streamers, sweats, and clueless bot-walking New Lights. It's an absolute ♥♥♥♥-show right now.

Given the lack of a good reward structure for activities such as Survival (formerly known as "Competitive") and the "pinnacle" end-game PvP activity "Trials of Osiris", it's doubtful that anyone besides the extremely dedicated will enjoy these activities as they exist currently. Seasonal content releases also seem to result in a massive ebb-and-flow of player population with the "end of season" doldrums (usually the 2nd/3rd month in the semi-quarterly seasonal release cycle), which means that the third month of PvP tends to be mostly hardcore players and the exceptionally dedicated.

UPDATE: Bungie introduced anti-cheat to the game, which seems to have taken care of a lot of the cheaters. But now Trials has people resetting their "cards" every few wins in order to stay out of the Flawless pool for loot.

Overall, if you're looking for a game to FOCUS on and improve at, this game is forgiving enough to allow you to get your foot in the door (the generous "aim assistance", various PvP game modes, and non-pinnacle loot incentives are all great mechanisms for this), but to truly MASTER this game, you'll need the patience of a Buddhist monk.

Also: Stasis is STILL broken. A well-placed Glacier grenade can instantly freeze a full-health super in its tracks and make it vulnerable to shatter damage. Not a great trade.

UPDATE: Stasis got its nerf in December 2021. People are back on their ♥♥♥♥ with broken exotics. Lorentz Driver and Chaperone dominate everything. Snipers are rarely seen. It's a ♥♥♥♥-show. Supers are getting a "re-work" to tune their charge times. Spent any amount of time getting good at one super? Better get good at another...

SCORE UPDATE: 4/10.

Until (and unless) Skill-Based Match Making and Connection-Based Match Making are resolved, weapon and subclass balancing, stasis freezing/slow, and loot incentives in pinnacle activities are addressed, this game is likely to remain a bastion (ha) for hardcore players only.

Initially difficult to get into and wrap your head around but ultimately pretty neat. Playing without mods currently, might try with mods sometime down the road.

Great graphics, well-written and considered science-fiction concepts and tropes, and an engaging 4X model that definitely gives you food for thought. Absolutely recommend.

Gameplay alternates between slow, methodical tactical scenarios and fast-paced close-quarters combat. The weapons are fantastic, the sound design is absolutely stunning, and the immersion is wonderful. 10/10, would buy this game again.
