Was looking forward to this despite the awful launch that was Fallout 76. I was ready for another Singleplayer Bethesda game to get lost in. While there are some nice moments the majority of this game isn't fun to me.

-Too many loading screens
-Performance overall is terrible even with a 7800xtx and a 5800X3D and 32 gbs of ram.
-The story is slow to start in the beginning
-Dialogue is okay
-Ship combat is confusing with no real helpful tutorials.

Overall it felt slow and the game didn't run well. Doesn't look good enough to demand what it does from my PC. I know it has to do with that game engine that's aged worse than old milk in a hot car.

If Elder Scrolls 6 isn't using a Unreal 5 or a hugely updated Creative engine it's going to be awful. I got this for free with my 7800XTX and don't care to play it.

The amount of content and story you get in this DLC for $10 puts other Devs to shame. Capcom and RE are at their best right now.

Also Ada bout to make me act up.

Early Access Review
I want to like this game but the matchmaking needs work.

I attempted to find a match several times and players just leave. There needs to be a more direct way of getting people into Trials otherwise people just arm wrestle which is fun at first but that's not what I bought the game for.

Will check it out down the road.

Finished RE4 after 12 hours of play time. Overall I'm giving this a light recommendation. Some of the story beats feel choppy and the dialogue felt out of place and a little corny even by RE standards. Inconsistent button promptsHere are my Pros and Cons.
________________________________________________________________
Pros:-First section at the lake you can use the boat to visit different areas almost like a mini hub area. Huuuge addition to that area after the boss fight.-Luis is got more screentime and better fleshed out character-Leon (Everything) excellent voice acting to animations to costume-Ashley is less annoying in this one-More Ada and Leon interaction-Weskers back baby!!!-More cutscenes instead of via a video calls. Video calls on screen is neat-Upped the gore which makes weapons feel much more impactful-Final boss fight was great-Post credits scene with Ada and Wesker was excellent, hopefully it teases more to come

Cons-Leons movement and control. I have played RE2 remake, RE7, RE8 and RE3 remake all on PC and Controller. This game feels like Leons running through thick mud the entire game. It somehow feels like a downgrade based on the previous games even though he should be more skilled in this one. Needed a little more polish and make his controls a little tighter.-Krauser is absolute dog water. The first knife fight was awful due to the inconsistent button prompts. Felt like I was just spamming the knife until I get a parry. The second boss fight isn't bad but his character and voice are awful. Take a shot every time he says rookie....-Button prompts are very inconsistent. I can either press A repeatedly and get out or use the knife a second later. Other times the knife prompt appears immediately or not at all.-Ramon Salazar boss fight was annoying and frustrating. I liked the new movement he got but boy is was annoying to fight him and not in a good challenging way.-Performance issues after revisiting the village at night when it's raining. My framerate would drop all the way to 45 fps and it was somehow playable.

It's not bad overall but the inconsistent button prompts, sudden framerate issues in certain sections and some choppy dialogue and story elements make this not as good as the original. Looking forward to mercenaries coming out soon.

Resident Evil 8 takes some notes from Resident Evil 4 in terms of the castle environment and the village. This isn't a bad thing at all as it provides an excellent atmosphere and immerses you in the world. It's a big pivot away from an old farm house in Louisiana but it still gives a similar feel as 7. This is a fantastic game that not only stays true to the feel of Resident Evil but is super well optimized thanks to the RE Engine.

Best RE remake so far and easily one of the best remakes ever made. That RE Engine, so optimized.

Long time RE fan. Spoilers in this review.

I love the RE series and have since I was introduced to RE 3 on the Dreamcast. Overall the Pros outweigh the cons for this remake but it's funny because some of the cons could have been easily adjusted.

Pros:

The intro: The entire first person intro where you go through Jill's apartment and look through stuff was not expected but so welcome. Seeing her wall with all of her notes on Umbrella and the Mansion were great to take time and look through. I also loved how they handled her PTSD from the mansion and how it affected her emotionally; some nice foreshadowing as well.

Jill Valentine: Everything about her from her now model, new costume and voice actress are all simply amazing. There was not a single moment where I groaned at anything they did with her character and her story. They hit the mark dead on here.

Carlos: Not corny like he was in the original which is great because it's 2020. The dialogue between Carlos and Chris is perfect and doesn't feel overdone.

The visuals: All I wanted was to explore more of Raccoon City and that's exactly what I got. The beginning section with Brad was fantastic. I wish more time in the game was spent here. The lighting, textures, costumes, facial animations, cutscenes, environments were all fantastic. The nods to the dresses in the window and the chalk drawing were a nice and subtle touch.
Nemesis design: I was look warm on his design at first but it grew on me.
Cutscenes: Very well done. Great character design and great voice acting.

The Cons:

Nemesis could have been better handled. I would have like more random encounters and hearing his theme blaring as he charges at you. Also when fighting him he could just box you in a corner and ropa-dope you which was more frustrating than scary. Some of his boss fights I flat out ran out of ammo because I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. Made things more frustrating than anything.

Pacing: I wish they spend more time in the city portion of the game. Slow it down a little bit and let it breath. The first part of the game went by very fast. Some sections of the game felt very well done whereas others felt quick and kind of choppy.

Nikolai: Let his character slow burn a little bit. I feel this could have been done by fleshing out the city a bit more too. He doesn't need to twist his mustache in his introduction. How does he know Jill is unreliable exactly? They didn't set this up.

Too much ammo/supplies. Took away from the tension.

No puzzles except for two quick ones. No Water puzzle?

The entire electrical plant part of the game was AWFUL. The bugs were frustrating and not challenging. The "puzzle" was annoying and not challenging. Hate this part.

The "Odd":

Jill handles a rail gun like an anime character? Oh no baby what is you doing???

No Gravedigger? Nani?

No clock tower? You only see it during one of the boss fights with Nemesis.

In general I enjoyed my time playing this. Not as good as RE2 as I assume that had more time in development. The stuff I liked they did really well and the stuff that was bad was so bad. 70/30 good to bad.

Updating my review as of 9/13/2019.

I finished the game after the developer released a few performance patches. I have to say I'm really impressed with how fast the developer identified and fixed the issues with the game. No onto the review...

Overall for a walking simulator it was good. The mechanics with the video camera and ability to view/manage items in your inventory without the game shoving it in your face makes it easier for me to get immersed because I can decide what I want to view/use and not the game. Not to say there aren't some game controlled story moments with the phone and walky talky but it doesn't happen too often. The atmosphere was great and easy to lose yourself in. The woods can feel endless sometimes and doesn't force you down one path which helped me immerse myself in the game; I'm assuming this is where your dog bullet comes in so if you need some help, he is there to guide you or search for items. I liked the game in general however, towards the end (last hour) is just... woof. It would have been better if they pulled back the effects and let you take everything in. My head was pounding because there was so much going on. I'd still recommend this game if you're a fan of walking simulators/scary games.

Pros:
-Atmosphere
-Sound design (especially with the enemies who go away when shown with a flashlight)
-Bullet (Works well without being annoying and you can pet him!)
-Inventory management (Yes thats right. It's not necessary to do this to finish the game which is good.).
-Video camera mechanics. This was simple yet effective.

Cons
-Story (Would have been nice to let the story breath a little more. Layers of Fear 1 & 2 did so well with taking their time and fleshing things out).
-Ending. As I mentioned above my head was pounding because there was so much going on. Wished they let it breath a little more.
