Divinia Chronicles: Relics of Gan-Ti: is an action role-playing game with a retro look that is still in the early access phase and was developed by Team Monkey.


Long before our time when the Kingdom of Aerovan was at the zenith of its power: a group of seers went in search of a mysterious power, the origin of all life. They called this force "Gan", today we know it as "Divinia". In an unnatural act, the Ancients tried to use Gan to develop a total weapon - and created the evil "Gan-Ti" or "Death of All Life". The god-like royal houses sealed the destructive power in artifacts and ruled the Aerovan archipelago with an iron hand. After years of oppression, popular resistance developed and the noblest warriors of the age united to form the Archkeeper Order. They managed to conquer the Gan-Ti relics and banish them in the fiery crater of the Suvius volcano.

Without the power of the relics, the tyranny of the royal houses fell apart and the eerie creatures disappeared from the countries. Peace had returned. However, eruptions around the Suvius volcano have been reported for a few days, the wise men believe an impending eruption is likely. With a young and careless king in power, the Gan-Ti powers will again fall into the hands of the powerful and so you come into play ...

I don't want to spoil too much from the story. You are a stinky normal boy in a village with a fate that you don't know about yet, but it is gradually catching up with you. On your trip you will meet so many shapes and of course different opponents, you can defeat them with magic in close-up or long-range. To get further, you sometimes have to solve one or two puzzles. It is also worthwhile to explore the individual areas in order to find and loot one or the other treasure chest. Of course, your equipment should not be neglected, as in every RPG.

You can tell that the game is being developed by a small team, because the times between the updates are sometimes quite long, but Rome wasn't built in a day

Ich möchte nicht zu viel von der Geschichte preisgeben. Du bist ein normaler Junge in einem Dorf mit einem Schicksal, von dem du noch nichts weißt, aber es holt dich allmählich ein. Auf Ihrer Reise werden Sie so vielen Formen und natürlich verschiedenen Gegnern begegnen, dass Sie sie mit Magie aus der Nähe oder aus großer Entfernung besiegen können. Um weiter zu kommen, müssen Sie manchmal ein oder zwei Rätsel lösen. Es lohnt sich auch, die einzelnen Gebiete zu erkunden, um die eine oder andere Schatzkiste zu finden und zu plündern. Natürlich sollte Ihre Ausrüstung nicht vernachlässigt werden, wie in jedem Rollenspiel.

Man merkt, dass das Spiel von einem kleinen Team entwickelt wird, da die Zeiten zwischen den Updates manchmal ziemlich lang sind, aber Rom nicht an einem Tag gebaut wurde

Divinia Chronicles has an early access review that's 5 years old. I bought it about a year ago. I gotta say that it ain't near ready yet. A lot of the reviews compare this game to zelda for the N64. I don't think so. True, it is a 3D adventure rpg, but any other comparisons don't stand up. The user interface is user unfriendly. I mean c'mon, no save or autosave?
I played Ocarina of Time when it first came out over twenty years ago. I couldn't stop playing.
I tried Divinia Chronicles: Relics of Gan-T again today after the 7/22/20 update and I can't see any improvement in gameplay.
This review is not about trashing Team Monkey. I bought Divinia Chronicles to encourage them to deliver finished game. But if you don't make it fun, you can hardly call it a game. Well, I'm not giving up hope. I'll try it again next year. Maybe it'll be a game then.

OK. Here it is, a year later. The last update was over a year ago. Nothing, not even small improvements.
What I would like to know is when Steam is going to start policing these bad actors who are marketing game demos as EA games. I mean there must be plenty of data on the subject. This kind of thing hurts everyone who is seriously in need of funds to complete a project.If a developer can't keep moving on a project within a reasonable amount of time, put the game on hold and stop sales until progress is achieved. I admit that I have little knowledge of the development process, but a few consumer protections are definitely in order. I know that I have been skunked several times now. Hey Steam, are you listening?

Cyrus’ life was an ordinary one in the quiet village of Medari, until destiny caught up to him. Transported in a strange dimension he finds a mythical blade, however tied to an ancient seal. As the incantation is broken, an evil power known as Gan-Ti is released throughout the kingdom, bringing chaos and severe changes to most living beings. As the last descendant of the legendary Lightbringer lineage, it’s up to him - therefore you - to stop the madness engulfing the Kingdom of Oria.

Thematically the setting is mainly high fantasy, with all sorts of mythical creatures and concepts like magic being well-established in the world; however, there are some sci-fi elements at times such as gunships, high-tech facilities and even certain enemies wielding guns. Certainly bizarre, and one of the main reasons worldbuilding never really feels cohesive nor coherent. Nevertheless, the location variety and overall design of the locales are more than passable, even if visually dated.

Most NPCs will have a few dialogue lines about either their problems, daily lives or quest-related ones, but there’s barely anything to help you elaborate on the lore further. Conversations are rather basic, linear, and follow a generic “hero of the land” plot that doesn’t have any unique or surprising turnarounds at any point - they ‘do the job’ ,nothing more. Many elements of worldbuilding and lore will remain unexplained due to this lack of general depth.

The world is divided into several areas, most of which initially locked behind impassable barriers that need you to reach a certain point in the story, or trigger specific quests to get through. For the rest, you are free to come and go from any unlocked area; initially this involves some tedious walking with respawning enemies, but fast travel is unlocked rather soon, and even if imperfect it’s a boon to return to the village and get to places faster.

Each location will have secrets in the form of chests and collectibles, most of which are worth the extra time as they grant currency and materials to acquire better equipment. The lack of a local map will have you remember the way to-and-from areas unreachable by fast travel, the layout isn’t so complex to make it a major issue.

Puzzles are uncommon, and are all unique in their own mechanics. From finding switches to activate machinery, to rotating mirrors in order to activate a device with reflected light, none of them is particularly difficult or frustrating, and come as a nice change of pace from the fighting and collecting.

Cyrus will gain XP and Gold from both slaying enemies and completing quests in a standard ARPG fashion. There are no loot drops: all that you may find is either contained in hidden chests, found in the wild (like magical plants for upgrades) or purchased at the trader in Medari, which sells unique weapons and armors (with special passives) for a price in gold and Relics, a special currency only found in secret containers.

Once a level is gained, skill points may be invested in one of the twelve elemental powers you’ll progressively unlock through the story, which range from passive, support, offensive and utility skills. The absence of a respec may bar you from gaining higher levels in more latter skills without grinding, and is definitely a needed update. Some collectibles like Spiders will also grant unique skills not obtainable in other ways, so keep an eye out for these elusive targets.

Fights happen in real time, with a close-up third-person camera as is customary for this kind of ARPGs. You’ll have to manage stamina and have a dodge-roll with generous i-frames at your disposal (no, this isn’t a Souls-like!). Striking a balance between offense, recovery and evasion is key to not get overrun in combat, since most enemies at your same level hurt a lot, and bosses back a tremendous punch most of the time. Your skills can be triggered by a ‘combo meter’ filled by hitting enemies: one full hex will enable Tier 1 abilities of each element, two hexes Tier 2 and so on. You also have a shield that can negate a high amount of damage, and later on, if upgraded, send bullets back to the attacker.

Most enemies have unique abilities like inflicting debuffs, moving in special ways or multiple means of attack: generally, learning each’s attack pattern to then strike at the right moment is the best strategy. There isn’t much complexity to the system, but the combat feels engaging and dynamic enough from start to end. Bosses are tough, change their moves as they lose health, and can be a real challenge. Death will have you restart from the last area transition, all enemies respawned - you’ll retain XP, gold and collected chests / upgrades.

Side-quests are your run-of-the-mill ARPG filler, indicated by a large ! on the map when a new one is present. Be them fetching, mob clearing or similar shenanigans, they’re worth doing for the rewards but rarely interesting. The collectibles like Tree Spirits are there for the sake of achievements, but serve no other purpose, and also have no local area tracking, only global, so you won’t know which areas still have some to gain (which will be annoying as hell for completionists).

I wish i've seen this before. a Zelda-like Action RPG, made in one of my favourite engines of all time.

The game "feels" good. It made me feel like playing Twilight Princess, but on PC.

The combat might be a little challenging at the beginning, the target system seemed kinda buggy to me and after some practice, i noticed i could handle enemies better without targeting them. It works fine when you have just one enemy left, though.

Also, i highly recommend changing your "Evade" key (alt) for Middle mouse button. It just feels better for some reason, i can react faster that way.

The game is fairly playable and even enjoyable even though i had a very low FPS in my computer, even with minimal settings, Maybe it's just because i have an old computer, but other source games run fine here. I wish there was an option to disable sunlights.

The enviroment is nice. I specially loved the caves and the grandpa puzzle area. Nice work.

The characters and NPC are well made as well. Although some of their dialog artworks could be a little better. Their eyes specially.

Now the game wont let me play past the Sword in the middle of the forest with grandpa's voice. I get this error everytime:
CUtlStreamBuffer::Close() Write (null) failed 31362 != 76695.

Not sure if it's a bug or something on my computer. I'll google about it later after i'm done with some work but if anyone knows how to fix this, i'd be glad if you could tell me.

tl;dr: The game is good enough to enjoy already, but still need to be worked on. If you're unsure if you should use your money on this, i suggest adding to your wishlist and following. If you do like Zelda games in other hand, i suggest getting it now.

Divinia Chronicles: Relics of Gan-Ti is a interesting ARPG what a bit can remind you to a Zelda game. This game is now in early access, but the looks are very promising. The story is quite interesting and deep, the dialogues are similar to JRPG games' style. The control system is good enough, it shouldn't create any problem for you, but for now a combat is not too good (Soon this will be improved as the developer is planning to do some updates). Graphics at the moment are not the best, but in the future this also may change, however a graphic style is promising. Sounds and especially the music is good, it really creates an enjoyable and pleasant atmosphere.

Divinia Chronicles: Relics of Gan-Ti is an ARPG where you're going to play as a guy from a village in a middle of the forest that in the begining he doesn't know anything about his fate but his during the adventure will discover it.

At the first sight, the game has remembered me the Wii version of Legend of Zelda

The game is in early acces now, but you can play five chapters and try some of the features and contents.

In the first chapter, the game introduces you the story and characters.

In the second one, you are going to learn how to fight, and solve some puzzles.

In the third one, you are going to awake a fairy that will teach you how to use magic powers and you will fight to your first boss.

These three chapters are a sort of tutorial, the adventure really begins in the fourth one.

The game unblocks chapters when you arrive to some checkpoint and you can not save during them.

The character is easy to control using keyboard and mouse. WASD to move and mouse to fight using one button for hit and one for block.

The graphics are nice anime style. There are full of colours and animations are normal for a game of these characteristics. The scenarios are quite good (the game uses source engine), water effects are good and the enviroment changes a little bit during night and day. Maybe developers must improve the models of the characters, they are a litlle bit simply, specially the enemies (there are three types: squirrels, frogs and plants). They must be better, because all of them are low detailed and have the same look and textures.

The map is a little bit complex. I miss a little map of the area in the corner of the screen and some sort of quick travel because I spent a half of time walking around between the main sites of the map.

The game is very linear and there's no side-quests, but it's well written and its story seems long enough (I have only play the first three chapters) to give you some hours of entertainment.

You improve your skills fighting, each enemy gives you points of expirience that raise your level but I haven't been able to find new equipment (you change the sword between chapter two and three) so it neither seems there is inventory management or traits/abilities/skill point. Maybe in the next chapters this point changes,I hope so.

Music and sound are quite good, there are some qualilty tunes and sfx.

The game has no achievements neither trading cards, I encourage to developers to add them in next releases

The game needs some work but developers are working hard on it so I think it is a good choice to play, if you like Zelda style role games.

Well. The game isnt perfect as its in early access. Story is simple and avatars of npc are kinda hm... They dont portrait npc characters in the best way possible?
Sometimes hit detection is off and you cant hit monster at all. Beware of forces of evil which will use deadly rabbits, frogs and other animals to kill you. Well. The game also has vomiting zombies so there is that. Why cant you kill chickens in village? It's a mystery which i hope will be solved in full version of the game.
Overall it wasnt great but i had fun playing the game so for now thumbs up and i hope i'll see great updates in the future. Yes.

UPDATED REVIEW... FEB 2020

The cutscenes have changed dramatically, they look much better now than what they did back in 2016 but the more noticeable change is how many LOADING windows pop up, and how slow they are.. which is a shame.

The addition of a new weapon upgrade store has been added in the town for your weapon and also it looks like the magic has now been upgraded with stat points you can use to make them more powerful which is great as it adds more to the magic system and how you choose to level it.

The addition of currency in the game has now also been added to accommodate the weapon upgrading system, I have also read there are other stores in the game also that sell things like potions but not sure if that is 100% true as I didn't play that far for this video.

The addition of using a controller is welcomed (which is what I used this time) but to be honest it makes something that shouldn't be complicated VERY complicated and holding down 1 button to combo swipe your sword is not my idea of fun. Using a controller actually makes the game harder in my opinion because of the way it has been set with the controls, WHO uses R1 to attack in a game?

On top of the issue above with a controller, you STILL have to use the mouse and keyboard if you open up the magic menu, I really could'nt figure out how to navigate the menu with a pad. and I actually gave up on locking onto target using the pad cos I just could not figure it out.. cos It just would not work.

The text in the game looks like it has gone through a re-translation since 2016 also, (which I suggested on my STEAM review in 2016), but the game STILL has some issues and awkward moments with the text especially the convo at the beginning with you and the kid.. there's ONE moment that made me feel quite uncomfortable and felt it was out of character.

WELL, just bought this game as an off chance, I Dont usually buy early access games in fear of them not ever finishing it BUT I just couldnt resist. Within the first 15mins of the game I could tell this game is HEAVILY inspired by the Super Nintendo game.. Secret Of Mana. The enemies, their attacks, music, temples, the spells you get to learn, even bosses (the water temple boss). THIS is NOT a bad thing that the game borrows from Secret Of Mana, cos that game was certainly one of the Super Nintendo's BEST action rpg games. The only main difference so far is that there's NO ring menu for item usage, the main chararcter you control dont look nothing like Randy off S.o.M, and the story is slightly different.

I can see the game has a few issues it needs to still iron out for what content has been released so far but these are so minor it won't spoil your gameplay, someone needs to re-read this games english script and alter it cos things spelt wrong and sentences not making full sense are in this game, for example.. Wish spelt as Whish .. and talking to the water temple woman certainly needs reworking text wise. I'm now only just beaten the two werewolf monsters and saved the water temple princess and have stopped to write this review for the game so here are my marks so far..

Graphics: 8/10 (Because of visible glitches, and the damage pop could look a lot more colorful and flash with crit hits also.)
Music/Sound Effects: 9/10 (I noticed a few minor jumps in the music and whilst loading areas, this though could be my laptop and not the game itself, not sure really.)
Story: 10/10 (I'm loving it so far, makes me want to go play 'Secret Of Mana' all over again, hahaha!)
Over All: Id certainly recommend this to my friends, in fact.. i'm just about to head on over to a facebook page thats dedicated to final fantasy and spread the word of this game to them, they are ALL Secret Of Mana fans. i'm also going to cover a mini-review on my website.

Suggestions to the devs: Please dont think im making these suggestion out of spite or they are meant in any negativity against your game, it's constructive ideas for you to think about adding to your game to make it even MORE appealing, so..

1. Make damage pop more flashy.. IF you take a look at 'Dawn Of Mana' on the PS2 and see how the damage pops on that, I think that type of effect would look FANTASTIC in this game of yours, look on Youtube.
2. Get someone in to rework the English dialogue and spell check for mistakes.. Whish?
3. Maybe introduce items menu, with potions etc.. maybe use the F-Keys, F1, F2 etc.. to use the items.
4. have enemies drop items, like hp potions etc. by doing this it will give your game more content also, like item shops.
5. give your game a coin currency, again for buying items in shops etc.
6. get some side quests put into the game, with rewards like currency, items, etc. even if you only do like 3 to 5 side quests per chapter.. it adds more depth to your game and interaction with npcs.

There's probably loads more I could write here but dont want to overwhelm you, in ANY case, this is a fantastic game and look forward to MANY more updates for it.. good luck on getting this project finished.

This is a sort of zelda clone in 2011 source. It's not the best game out there but it's worth it on sale just for the sheer interestingness of the fact it's a 2011 source zelda game that is expected to fully release in december 2020. This isn't just some indie revival project for source or something either, i remember seeing this game WAY WAY back and i'm glad i finally got a hold of it. Get it on sale!

Okay people.. Here's the deal. I just finished what there is of early access in about 2.5 hours, and I received two phone calls during my play that totalled at least 30 minutes. What this means is that for $15 USD, you'll only be getting about two hours worth of content until more content is released as the development continues on this game through its early access period. Please keep in mind that I bought this game on it's first day of early access launch and that there may more much more content available by the time you are reading this review. (The early access launch date for this game was October 7, 2015)

What this is available is plenty fun and the graphics are of a cartoony but very nice style that I like quite a bit. There are some things I like and things I would love to see added to this game from what I've experienced so far in the first couple of hours on early access launch day...

What I like:

- Very nice graphics with smooth textures that draws you into the world.
- Smooth animations and fluid movement controls
- Nice story, though it does seem to be of typical RPG fashion.. the same kind of story that we've all seen and can predict 1,000 times before. ..Still, it's a fun and well done story.
- The combat engages you and requires much more skill and involvement then typical turn based RPG games. This one is very action oriented and I love that!
- The music is very peaceful and nice

What I'd love to see:

- This RPG game lacks a skill progession system at the current time and there's no way to upgrade skills or stats at any time, even after you level up it's all automatic
- An RPG game without loot? UGH. No inventory? UGH. No cool weapons and armor and potions and junk loot to pawn at a shopkeeper in town? Major UGH! Please add all of this to this game please! I want gold and loot galore!
- No ability to select a class, profession or even change what you look like. While this isn't a requirement, it would be nice to be able to have a few options even if they have no bearing on the story of the game.
- Game currently on its launch day of early access is way too short! I want more!!

So, as you can see from the lists above.. this game is easy enough to like and have fun with for what it does offer, I really just want to see so much more! Mainly more content right now because I was enjoying it and want to see more of this story! And I really want to able able to get loot and weapons and armor and have an inventory like any other RPG game! Being able to upgrade skills and choose new attacks at level up etc is also something that really feels like it's missing right now.

Whether or not the developers have any intention of adding anything that I want to see is unknown to me at the moment. What I can say is that this game is nice, but until it offers more content then it current does on early access launch day (October 7, 2015), most people might want to hold off with their purchase. I like it so far alright, but want to see more story content as well as more classic RPG loot and progression added soon.

Here is my ratings at this point:

VALUE: 15/40 This score could be so much higher if only we had more content and if there were more skills and progession like skill points and if there was loot and gear to choose from and shops to buy and sell it. Just more content in the story to make this a 6 or 8 or 10 hour game would help my value score as well. Right now, it's just too little for your dollar in my opinion, even though what is there now is fun.

FUN: 25/30 I can't knock this important aspect of my scoring table. This game is really fun right now, even though once you master the combat it gets a little tedious. But isn't almost any RPG kinda like that? I like it right now.. just wish there was more conent and depth.

CONTROLS & BUGS: 20/20 For an early access game, this game plays without even a hitch. You can change your controls layout now to whatever you prefer and it works very fluid and smoothly.

GRAPHICS & SOUND: 10/10 A very nice art style and sound/music for a low budget RPG. This one is an easy 10.

TOTAL SCORE ON EARLY ACCESS LAUNCH DAY: 70% (70 out of 100) This score will likely only go up as the development continues for this game thoughout its early access. More content will only increase the value score which is by far the lowest score on this EA launch day.
