Can't get the advanced mining laser now (bug maybe)
I got the quest from the Armory guy to get the Advanced Laser (that's the only way to get it AFAIK). He told me there was someone doing ilegal mining somewhere close and that he will mark it in my map.

Problem is: I never got the mark. I've talked to the guy many times, always the same conversation, always ends up in "show me where he is" or something like that, and that's it. No pin, no mark, no nothing, therefor, no advanced mining laser...

I might try to sell his "office" and see what happens if I rebuild... Maybe I have to hire a new guy and that will reset that quest. I hope...

Ok, so here's an update with some interesting things I found out...

First, about that issue, it seems it was a bug(-ish). The marker on the map was an outpost which I had already visited, so that's why, when I went back in, I didn't get the next part of the quest. How did I figure this out?

- If you delete a room with a computer station thingy (can't remember the name) and an employee, the next time you install that computer station, the employee will be back too, you don't have to re-hire.

- The quest line continues where you left it.

- If you move to another base in another planet (in my case was in another system since I was salty), you don't lose anything (as far as I can tell):

-- Just claim another base and (almost - the game says that, I think I got everything I had) all your things are put in a locker called "previous base item cache".

-- Your saved items from the last base will reappear when you install another storage in your new base (this was a wonderful surprise).

-- Your employees reappear when you install their terminals.

-- If you have a bugged quest or a broken quest for a reason similar to mine (read above) it will probably get fixed.

Thank you very much for that. Heading to a 5 planet system now. Also like to remind people that buildable Signal Booster should help you find a base on a new planet pretty quickly.

Thank you, The Architect
I have the same problem. I had visited the outpost before the quest was given to me, and so no laser blueprint. I will try this fix.

If you have a freighter, you can just build the required terminal in there, fly to another system, do the quest, and then fly back. No need to move bases.

I have moved my base and when I went to specialist, he did not give me any location on the new planet. Tried another planet, same thing. I cannot get past this quest.

I encountered the same problem 2 days ago, the mission on an outpost already discovered by me...

But I have not tried to claim a new base on another planet, because I was thinking that after this I have to rehire the specialists.

Glad to hear that I was wrong, many thanks.

I waited until this update to buy the game, but it is so buggy still. This bug in particular has made me stop playing the game until they fix it. I finally found a good planet with a good spot for a base and spent a lot of time building it and now you're telling me that the only way I can advance is to pack up and move shop?

This type of stuff drives me nuts. How did they not think to test for such an obvious scenario?

I built my base on what appears to be the perfect planet, great conditions and pretty.
And then there's that bug.

Any way to mark the place so i can return to it?

Or maybe just wait and hope for a patch?

I've seen suggestions to remove the station from your base and put it in your frigate (if you have one) in order to try again. I think you might also be able to hire someone else. Otherwise you might have to wait for a patch or switch to the experimental channel.

NMS doesn't really have quests. A quest is "an act or instance of seeking." NPCs trend to give you advice or offer goods. The advice may be "in order to build that you need to use X and Y." These are just tasks that we need to do in order to accomplish some goal. A "quest" is fulfilled immediately upon finding what you searched for. You could consider the "search for the element" a quest, but that seems a bit odd to me.
