Track IR setup
Hello all,

Is there a setup guide anywhere for TrackIR specifically to work with ETS2.

My TrackIR device is the older version 3, which works OK and allows head tracking in ETS2, However, the setup with ETS2 has the views switching to all sorts of views when I turn my head and occasionally the system seems to drop out and flips the view to a sort of out the windows reverse view and the only way to get it back to looking fowrads is to look down at the floor and back up again which is really not ideal.

I've looked in the TrackIR software (latest version 5.2) and played with various settings, such as turning off pitch and roll and trying to limit the view but it appears that either ETS2 is still mapping views to certain extreme angles of head turn, or my older TrackIR3 system is perhaps not up to snuff and just keeps dropping out.

So far I've crashed the truck on 4 occasiona now within a single run simply because I tried to glance sideways and ended up with a cray view looking backwards that was locked, causing me to have to then look at the ground a number of time to attempt to re-centre the vew to be looking forwards, by which time it was too late.

Is there any way of diabling certain views from TrackIR on the ETS2 side? eg, is there a config file I can edit to say dont map any views other than left and right look?

Thanks for the fast reply but that doesnt really help much I'm afraid as all it shows is someones setup working nicely and not how they set it up.

Perhaps its down to me using an old TrackIR3, maybe that video is a newer TrackIR and thus works flawlessly without requiring to have to be setup other than the basics in the TrackIR setup itself.

I'm reluctant to buy a newer TrackIR tbh, I just happened to have this older system lying around.
Understood. I'm not running that but thought it would be worth a shot. Hang in there one of the other community members might be able to point you in another direction.

Hello

I am using the Track IR5 and it works flawlessly. Setup was as simple as downloading the latest TrackIR software install it, and calibrate the device in the software driver.
Once done, just launch the game and TrackIR will detect that it's running, and select the included profile for ETS2.

Voila, enjoy, ...it's a game changer, had I had it from the beginning on, I would have never made a dent :-)
Thanks Kaitech, Maybe its down to the older device with the newer drivers then; I may just consider trading it in for the newer model then.

Hello

Do you also have the TrackClip Pro attached?
The reason your screen jumps into all sorts of weird views is cuz the TrackIR lost track of your reflective dot, meaning you turned your head too far, meaning your settings aren't "sensitive" enough.

I'm using TrackIR v3, and it's easy. I am assuming that your TrackIR v3 is vanilla, ie no Roll, X, Y and Z. If you do, just turn those off (remove checkmarks on those axis). ETS's 6DOF is not that great anyway, and the only good thing is just the Z axis which allows you to "lean forward" and look at the tiny gauges on DAF and MAN trucks :)

1. Use v4.xx instead of v5.xx of the software
2. Take the default profile (or the racing one), make a copy for ETS
3. Modify the YAW first by:

a) shifting entire row up a couple of notches (increases sensitivity, meaning you need to turn your head less to change your view).
b) the first 2 or 3 points from the middle, make them close together in height, differing by just 1 or 2 in value each. This is your dead zone, so your screen doesn't jump about when you scratch your ass or something but your screen DOES move slightly from your RL head movements. I like having this "head-bob" motion in the game... but if you don't just make them the same value as point number 1 (the middle one, the dead centre one).
c) for the rest of the points further out, adjust to suit how far you want to turn your head before "looking behind". The higher up the values are, the more sensitive (hence view changes more as you turn your head further out).

4. Pitch can be left alone. I modified mine for deadzones, to get the "head-bob" I was talking about.

5. Roll, X, Y and Z can be disabled or enabled at your whim. My TrackIR v3 is vanilla so I only have Pitch and Yaw.

Hope it helps, or at least gives you a starting point.

EDIT - btw, having a hotkey for "center" is invaluable. If at any time your view suddenly goes weird, just centre your own head and look forward, and hit that key. The game will re-sync itself with the TrackIR and your view will return to normal. The default is F12 but it clashes with Steam so I remapped mine to CTRL-HOME.

Hi All and a happy New Year 2016 as this topic is relatively old...

I have a TIR5 and wished to set my default TIR point of view closer toward the windshield.

I know it is inside the controls.sii file feature but what is the value I must modify to get my virtual head closer to the windshield ?

I wished to alter my virtual height in the same way...

Any advice appreciated

Cheers
JTT - Gege21 - FR, if you hit (default key binding) F4 in the truck you get the adjustment menu. Hit it a few more times until you get to the seat adjustment page. There you can adjust where you sit in the truck.

Thx that's just I done. In other way is to make a mod with 55 or 60 FOV. but the seat adjustment is very helpfull.

I downloaded his profile from here-> http://www.squirrel.tv/forums/index.php?topic=71.msg137#msg137 however I can't seem to figure out how to make it show up in TIR and I pasted it in the profiles folder no problem.

Ok thx for the link and yes it's easy to paste the profil xml in the appropriate TIR folder.

Thanks again for all the infos and your nice help.

Cheers
