What do you mean exactly? You recruit them from towns.

I think noob above is referring to Northern troops. What I think you can do is join the Starks as a vassal and then recruit troops from your castle staff. That's how I got House Targaryan troops.

No, not Northern troops... I am talking about troops named STARK troops. For example, Stark Levy, Stark Man at Arms etc... Robb Stark has them, but I don't know how to obtain them.

@Louie Yea, that's what I mean. The user above me thought you were talking Northerners.
Starks can only be obtained by either becoming a vassal OR adopting Stark culture when you have your own kingdom, assuming Stark culture is an option (I'm running Targaryan so I wouldn't know). Starks can't be recruited from settlements, only from recruitment options offered by your court staff.

Also, sorry for the misunderstanding, @Jeremy. I mean you can recruit Targaryan troops from your castle staff. Where Daenerys is still much a mystery to most of us.

for special troops such as Kraken guard, Queen's men, Gold cloaks etc. you'll need to talk to certain NPCs in the lord's residence in certain towns. Seems to be the same thing with those special troops with their own troop trees like Starks, Lannisters etc. Talk to Sir Rodrik in Winterfell, talk to one of the guys in Casterly rock for Lannisters.

It's actually verry simple. You've to be the lord of a specific castle or town if you want to get those special troops. Winterfell for Stark troops, Pyke for Kraken Guards, Dreadfort for Bolton's, Casterly Rock for Lannister's...and I don't knoe how many they are but it's a nice feature

How can I be vassal to House Targeryen? I found Viserys in a mansion at Pentos, but when I spoke to him, he only said that bull sh1t of "awake the dragon". WTF.

instead of making a new thread i think i'll just borrow this one..

speaking of special troops how do i get trumpeters? and potentially bannermen so that the game will stop telling me my men need entertainment. (or any musician really...personally i'd prefer a nice acoustic guitar or something.)

You've to do the Varys quest and then he invades with a big army and take back King's Landing, and then you can be one of his vassals if you wish so. (Targ troops are very weak by the way).

You can get them when you've a lot of renown around 1000 they come to you and ask to join. But they are merceneries not northeners or reach trumpeters. But when your liege confers you a castle or a town inside this new fief of yours you often have all those "special troops" also Standard Bearer. Good luck.
