It plays a lot like vikings conquest. With customization, it allows you to play either according to the books or the HBO GOT show. I chose the show, and the characters look remarkably close. You can also choose to have static warfare or normal warband warfare. Static will emulate factions at war as in GOT lore and no truce will occur between them. Some of the companions you meet you will know (if you follow GOT). Podrik, Bronn, Brienne, etc are available to join your party. Some lords have companions! For example, King Joffrey has the hound (among others). If you capture a lord, you have the ability to execute him/her! BEWARE: this will cause all lords to hate you, regardless the faction you serve. If you are a king and own King's Landing, you can make them take the black and serve the Night's Watch! This is a good alternative to killing them, since only that lord's faction will hate you. A lot of the scenery is very good and immersive. Almost every character I can think of is present in the game in some form, and that really made me feel like I was in the GOT world. Weapons/armor can be improved. You have to buy boats to cross bodies of water.
There are some cons, but not enough to keep me away. The artwork for many objects don't look too good. There are some cool sigils on shields and lances with banners, but short of that many shields look really pixelated. It's also really challenging to fight at first, since you are a weakling and so many are initially so much stronger. This is frustrating until you grow stronger and get your valyrian sword. Even the easiest setting is really challenging. Tournaments become way more profitable at this point. There is also an option to enable/disable expert difficulty on tournaments, but you can bet way more and get way more back if left enabled. The game generally does not allow you to fight too long. First, there is an enforced wound mechanic that causes trouble sometimes. If you get a wound in battle, there is an attribute consequence. It can be healed, but there is a waiting period of a few days before it is completely gone. If you incur a second wound of the same kind during this waiting period or before the first one has been healed the effects of the first become permanent. So waiting it out is usually a good idea, so as to not incur further penalty. I've gotten multiple, different wounds in a single battle, and have gone without wounds in multiple battles. They are seemingly random, but prompt you to protect yourself rather than rush attackers without concern. Second, troops require rest to gain morale after battles.
So, in the end, I recommend it. But know that there will be struggle initially, followed by an amazing sense of accomplishment once you can match your enemies.

This one had me addicted from the get-go. It adopted the floris mod and gave many options that weren't in native warband. It was not as difficult to start as the other. The music and artwork is incredible, although I don't see character resemblance for many characters. It really gives you a feeling you are in the GOT world. There are quests that can feel a little lackluster, but still are fun. What I find really neat are the triggered events that occur from time to time. For example, the Westerlands are already at war with the North and the Riverlands, but at some point Renly will throw his claim in and the Reach will back him. Then Stannis throws in his claim. At this point, the Westerlands will be under attack from 5 factions. Events also get triggered when lands change hands (I won't spoil the surprise). There are invasions from wildlings and House Targaryen. You thrive in this game from constantly attacking, no enforced waiting (except when all troops are wounded). As a result, I found it easy to be king and conquer the map. There are lots of things to do on the map, places to explore, loot to be found. These locations add a lot to the lore and are beautiful artwork. Some captured lords have weapons you can steal. Companions have their own inventories and can carry loot and read books to improve their stats! Though they are generic companions, not actual people from the story. There are realistic features as well such as lances breaking. Armies have built in boats when crossing bodies of water. The difficulty scaling is much better in this game.
***Conclusion***
I tried to list as much info as I could remember. Both mod authors have done an amazing job creating their GOT world and immersing you. Each have different play styles, but they are both fun in their own way. They both are still being improved. I recommend you try both.
