Is AWOIAF more difficult than vanilla?
Is it just that I'm still relatively new (about 25 hrs) to the game or is this purposely more difficult?

I thought I'd give this a try being a GOT fan so I could at least be familiar with the world, map and characters. However, I find that things I was starting to get better at in the original game, I struggle with in this mod - even things like 1-on-1 combat. The very first quest from Robb seems harder than anything I got to in the vanilla game.

I find myself getting crushed in battles that I could've handled before as well. Should I just give up on this for now and go back to the main game until I master it?

Is it more difficult than vanilla? Yep...but so is almost every mod worth playing.

That being said, after starting a new game you need to go into the mod options through the camp menu and set up the difficulty again because the mod ignores the global difficulty settings.

Well I guess it wasn't really vanilla. I've never played vanilla. I've had Floris installed from the beginning.

I have never played warband, I bought it on sale and never got around to it. I found this mod an figured I had to give it a try. Wow the learning curve on this game is nuts! I mean what the hell am I even supposed to do at the beginning? I get my ass handed to me at tourney's, most badits groups seem to be larger than my group, and money is non-existent. The idea seems really fun but I am just blown away at the scope right now.

jonass - as pberg said above and others ive asked on reddit - this mod is hard. When I started the "vanilla" game with the Floris mod, it was much easier going and I was able to learn the ropes a little. I'm going back to that until I get better at the game. You may want to as well.

hard mod, right, just adjust it o the optioins menu and camp > options >more settings

imo harder is really nice.

I like it hard enough to be a challenge or more realistic but I'd at least like to know game mechanics and get my bearings a little more before I get into unwinnable situations. I'll try some adjusting though and see if I can get it

Well I'm glad I checked this thread, I was shocked at how much I was getting thrashed, with no real idea of what I was doing or tutorials or anything. Back to vanilla I go.

This mod is not only hard it is nearly impossible at times, even being a veteran player of mount and blade as well as other mods this one is the most ridiculously difficult I've ever played. The robber knights alone are just stupid, even with a level 30 character with insane stats I was trying to kill one robber knight (while my army was being massacred) and I hit him 6 times with a boar spear with absolutely no affect. That along with the fact that an army of 30 skilled men will cost over 600 gold per month but a mercenary contract only gets you about 200
