Monsters are cool but for a true lovecraft feel it needs a subtle edge as well. Something along the lines of poison/psychic ships.
- A cosmic horror descends onto the map, slowly driving everyone mad while it just sits there gloating until you manage to defeat it.
- While mining, desperate for steel, you come across an ancient brick wall. What could be buried so deep?
Other monstrosities and races to doom our poor colonists and tribals with could include the Serpent Men, Chthonians, Elder Things, and Moon-Beasts.
Innsmouth Look: Gives a social bonus when talking with other people with this trait, and a negative one when talking with people without it.
Ghoulification: You've done some questionable... things, and are now beginning the lengthy transformation into a ghoul. Severe social/negotiating penalty, but you have no qualms about seeing corpses, butchering them and/or consuming them.
Eldritch Savant: Gain a mood bonus when butchering (aka studying) the corpses of various monsters.
Holder of the Trapezohedron: You have once held the Shining Trapezohedron, and for a terrible price, gained eldritch knowledge. Increased learning speed, but reduced sanity.
Former Cultist, Follower of Nyarlathotep, Rats in the Walls?, etc...
Yes! More traits and backgrounds are always welcome.
