A simple guide to Beekeeping
After seeing so many people wondering about bees I firgaured that it needed its own thread to limit the repeated questions.

First you need the Matter Assembler to make an Apiary Crafting Station, which then makes all the bee related stuff. From there you need an apiary, some flowers near said apiary, a queen, and one or more drones. Put the bees in the input slots, and they should start working on their own. If you did everything right, and it is daytime, then you should see bees flying around the apiary.

Now where do you find the bees? They fly around on worlds like the normal bugs do. Catch them with your bug net, and put them to work. Different biome have their own pool of bee types that spawn. The Bees! mod (which is where this comes from by the way) at the CF forums has some of the info of where to find certain bees. This isn't 100% the same as what is in FU due to them tweaking things and adding new biomes. http://community.playstarbound.com/resources/bees.1585/

Now to get the more advanced bee types you will have to breed for them. This is rather simple really. I'll use Hardy bees as an example. All you need to do is place a honey bee drone or queen, with a matching forest queen or drone. The bees that spawn will have a chance of being hardy bees, which you then must catch, and setup in their own apiary.

Now what about frames? These are not needed, but do add useful effect to your apiary. You add them to the remaining input slot(s) and they will work their magic.

Now hopefully this info will allow people to get started with beekeeping.

I'm a bit dissapointed, all this stuff is taught in the bee keeping tutorial in the outpost, I thought you'd go a bit more in depth like plant range for efficient apiary setups and frame use which is definitely not "not needed" if you run your apiaries without frames you are a silly person.

Psst... a hint: All Flowers Are Not Created Equal

You mean I gotta hunt down "special" flowers too? DAMN YOU!!! *shakes fist* :)

If this keeps up my genes and bugs and stuff and ♥♥♥♥ spreadsheet will grow too big.

Well I want to allow people to find the other stuff out by themselves. Once you know what you are doing you should be able to do the rest on your own.

In terms of the info being in the questlines, I haven't played them in the lastest version, but instead had to firgaure out everything on my own. Back in the day there was next to no info about how the Bees! worked in the mod itself.

Not all arrangements of hives, flowers, and platforms are created equal. Trust me.. Its a eighty? I think eighty block range of flowers.. on any level.. I've tried different configurations.. You eventually find some.. Really derpy ways to make production and bee reproduction server crashing. Over three hundred drones on screen.. Gotta love crashing people on dedicated servers through just pure lag.

what bugs me is that the apiary crafting station is capable of making honeycomb blocks, but getting it to unlock during the quests or after is difficult, forcing a person to goto places with lots of honeycomb blocks and destroying the reason the giant bees are there in the first place.

i really wanted to make lots of my own honeycomb blocks and honey material blocks and wax blocks so i can build a massive underground place for the giant bees to spawn.
