The issue is misunderstanding how queens work now. You *want* them to die, so you can replace them with superior, newly breeded queens and consistently improve the bloodline. You are supposed to be breeding them for better types, improved lifespan etc, not getting one queen and producing forever with it.
That said, this is a consistent bit of feedback from many, so I'm investigating ways to adjust for it in the future.
There will be no bee codex to mention all the species. That's up to you to figure out, as intended! explore!
I’m going to give beekeeping another shot, taking on board what you said above. I’ll try not to worry about the queens dying, since I’m building up my stock of super drones which should help keep successors strong anyway. You're right in that some of this is just perception and grasping the concept. I am still in the early bee game and getting used to it.
That being said, I appreciate that you’re looking at ways to adjust this in the future. Perhaps another approach could be to stop drones from dying after the queen is gone? In this suggestion the drones would still be killed & replaced by a new queen. But since this is a player triggered action, at least there would be a pause until the player has had time to manage the apiaries.
My thinking is it could cater to more casual paces without compromising the depth of the experience. And the productivity of super beekeepers wouldn’t be impacted as they’ll continue to cycle bees at the pace they normally do.
Edit: Just a quick follow up; I played for a couple hours following your advice and am enjoying the experience a lot more.
