You'll need to build better power sources instead. Get some Fission up, and make your way to Quantum.
On the ground, I get what to do. The same things are unsustainable in space though. There are oceans of fuel out there so it isn't a big issue from a game-play point of view, but conceptually it feels a little sad that my spaceship cannot be environmentally friendly, while my surface base can.
limitations of the engine, basically. That, and I dont want to encourage mass building of irresponsible numbers of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ generators, when a single higher tier one is superior in every concievable way :)
For power, you could plant some flowers and keep some of the radioactive bees around, or miner bees if you're still using combustion generators.
As for the main base, we changed the plan to build it up in the space layer of a planet so we could use water generators and other machinery that are disabled in space. We are currently using Nuclear power when we need to run something big like the ansible, but will likely upgrade to Quantum sometime today or tomorrow.
