Renewable power on a spaceship/station?
Hello! I am trying to figure out how to make a workshop on a spaceship/station, but all the methods of generating renewable power on a planet seem to be disabled in space.
Solar panels don't seem to do anything, despite the lack of atmosphere to obstruct light.
Water pumps seem to pump no water (which is reasonable, I suppose, but that's the only alternative power source I could think of). And without water, farming for crops that could result in power seems impossible in the long run without leaving the station.

yea, you can thank people overdoing and exploiting solar power for this. You are intended to build better power sources, so we forced their hands to do so, to stop them from ignoring later-tier power generation methods in favor of simply using 900 solar panels.

You'll need to build better power sources instead. Get some Fission up, and make your way to Quantum.

Thanks for the reply (and the awesome mod)! I get the progression of power if I'm building on the surface of a world. Solar panels quickly become a pretty expensive venture compared to just making a quantum generator if you need loads of power.

On the ground, I get what to do. The same things are unsustainable in space though. There are oceans of fuel out there so it isn't a big issue from a game-play point of view, but conceptually it feels a little sad that my spaceship cannot be environmentally friendly, while my surface base can.

I dont know about you but I have a Solarium bee Farm and Id hate to imagine what the radiation is doing to the world...

limitations of the engine, basically. That, and I dont want to encourage mass building of irresponsible numbers of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ generators, when a single higher tier one is superior in every concievable way :)

If you want to farm something on a ship without having to gather things from somewhere else, you can use the hydroponic tubes in the agriculture station to grow things on, or just bring up some dirt and keep a watering can around. Although unless you really don't want to leave the ship it would be easier to put a flag on an ocean planet and just grab water from there for hydro trays.

For power, you could plant some flowers and keep some of the radioactive bees around, or miner bees if you're still using combustion generators.

Thanks for the tips! I ended up just using hydroponic tubes on my spaceship so I could have fresh coffee. I would have preferred trays so I could make use of item networks but this is good enough.

As for the main base, we changed the plan to build it up in the space layer of a planet so we could use water generators and other machinery that are disabled in space. We are currently using Nuclear power when we need to run something big like the ansible, but will likely upgrade to Quantum sometime today or tomorrow.
