[OUTDATED] [POSSIBLY BROKEN] Transporter

Suggestions
had a good idea for a partner mod for this. A handheld and ship mounted laser range finder that can be used to make remote GPS cordinance. It would add even more function to this and also be useful on its own for both target painting and just mesuring distance to something.

Had another idea a teleportable small cargo container for moving small amounts of cargo between planets and ships. It would not be OP because the crate couldent be attached to anything to work most likely so it would have to loaded and unloaded manualy.

The cargo container won't be possible because it will be empty or something when it "arrives" at the destination. Also if you use Midspace's Admin Commands doing the command /range does that for you.

I dont know anything about the game code but I am fairly sure you are wrong. There are ship scale teleporter scripts and that is not an issue for them at all, unless there is something signifigantly diffrent it the way this script works there should be no reason it cant be done.

Neither am I. This is one of Leto's comments which is currently on page 5:
Edit: Page 5 of the comments section for the workshop item.

I would like to transport an container or something like that (no items, you would lose them), but i am missing an idea how to transport a whole container. I mean, you have to select it somehow and then say "this one should go down" - and that's not easy.

I get it to being that it isn't possible but I'm not a 100%

Well I have no idea why he is saying you would lose the items but I was basicly thinking just a small crate that has a transmiter and internal powersuply for it and it would simply lock on to that the same way it locks on to other transporters but you couldent have it attached to anything else or it wouldent work. Thinking you could use a modified version of nukeguards tractor beam to move it just make one that keeps it at a set distance.

I had one or two suggestions:
1) Sound! We need some cool sound effects to increase effectiveness!
2) Relay option, say you're 57km out: You have one transporter that is in the middle of A and B (57km apart) and you are coming from A to B. Your friend at B says to the Teleporter "Relay through C (middle teleporter)" and then your friend is teleported here. Yould be cool for long distance and is balanced through having to use more components... Awesome work dude keep it up!

Because small items tend to fall through walls, or they roll away or despawn.

Yeah that would be an nice idea. But there is one problem: It must, somehow, be connected to an ship. Otherwise it would damage everything when the ship moves.

I am thinking about it, but currently I have other stuff to do: Nnext will be range, power and configuration modules.
Snøfler Jun 12, 2016 @ 8:19am
Leto I didn't actually mean a configuration module like that when I suggested it. I meant an actual file for the mod in which you can change values for stuff such as default range, MW/person and such.

I think it would be awesome if you could attach the transporter pad to the conveyor system and you would be able to teleport some of your cargo to another grid with a conveyor attached teleport pad.

Would this be hard to make?

I'm looking for this because I have a couple of moon bases and transporting ore there is just a pain (only about 10-18 tonnes are managable with the mining vessels I'm using and building bigger ones aren't practical in this scenario).

Also this could be balanced with something like the energy cost of teleportation would increase exponentially with the mass of the teleported cargo or something. Or a cooldown could be added, so that you cannot just teleport a gazillion tonnes of ore to the surface at once. Or a predetermined limit (say like a mass of 5 tonnes) could be set so you would need multiple teleportations to transport all of your cargo.

Or I would be pretty much okay with just being able to teleport from my ship's cargo hold to a given gps coordinate. The rest would be taken care of by collectors.

Oh and by the way great mod, I'm having a lot of fun with it as it is.

Add a landing gear function so it can be locked to the ship when it moves. Also you didnt comment on the laser range finder.

I have a lot of stuff to do. A laser range finder would be useful yes, not only for the teleporter. But first, let me do all the other stuff.

Just wanted to get a responce is all wasent nessacaraly expecting you to do it just wanted to hear what you had to say.

I have two idea. You should make another model that would work better being flushed against a wall. Also maybe transporter to transporter, and it is 100km radius since two transporters are being used.

If you or someone else make another Transporter model, ask me and i will adapt the code to your model (just a few lines, e.g. positions of the Pads, radius of the Transporter and so on).

Transporter <-> Transporter is already in since the first day (I added it a few hours after release), but yeah, maybe i should inrease the radius.

I would like an alternate version that *only* teleports you between teleport pads connected via antenna and perhaps only when allowed (sharing permission like med-bay). this is to encourage sending landing pods to set up teleport outpost destinations on planet surfaces with an array of batteries to charge up for teleporting back to your ship after your planetary exposition
