How does borg orbital bombardment assimilation work?
I noticed the tooltip says that instead of killing pops when orbital bombarding, pops are assimilated? Where do these pops go, as el Auria went from 11 to 1 pop but I didn't notice any of my other pops go up?

Previously I tried landing armies, but I have seen reddit posts stating not to do this as the planets can only support basic buildings?

Can anyone elaborate what the correct thing to do is?

I unlocked harvesting, but it is taking a long time to reach the required Intel unlock.

Thanks in advance

You bombard a planet, then when the devastation hits like 70 % if I remember correctly it starts to slowly abduct pops. You will get a notification on top of your screen that a pop has been abducted and then it distributes those pops around your already existing unicomplex segments, assimilated colonies etc.

Thank you, that didn't happen for me? Perhaps a bug, or does it only work with certain ships?

And you do have your fleets orbital bombardment stance set to harvest? Although it should be set to it by default as Borg.

set your fleet to the harvest bombardment. right click on planet and set to orbit. should pop up that you harvested a pop in a few in game days. also check your policies and make sure its on harvest in case it bugged out and changed to destruction.

1. Borg fleet is ALWAYS on harvest bombardment. You cannot change that.
2. There is no bombardment policy for the borg.

Orbital bombardment assimilation seems to be broken. Several people noticed that already. Kinda disappointed with this mod.

Was it ever fixed about combat drones in ground armies? The last time I played the Borg, it was not possible to train the stronger types of ground army drones.

And I assume the planet in question had more than 1 pop? Did you by the way have Borg cubes at this point? And what map did you play? Also you could try to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the mod and also "verify the integrity of the game files" for Stellaris in Steam.

Of course another way to take planets is to train ground troops from your Unicomplexes for example, land them on those planets, wait for the pops to get assimilated and then manually transfer them around. (Note that at least some people have claimed that moving pops who are being assimilated between planets, to Unicomplexes might cause crashing issues. Although haven´t personally experienced them.)
