Form the United Federation of Planets Event discussion
Okay lets talk about this, best stratgies and what the plans for this going forward.

I just determined that the whole event can blow up in your face if you can't get a Coalition to form because you have a race that won't vote for it, and you can't kick them out.

Suggestions?

As for going forward, I like the idea of other races intergrating in after the UFP forms, just like they do in the real ST.

Thanks for this mod and this specific events, even with its faults.

in my playthrough, the vassal homeworlds are not doing anything at all, even their ships are just sitting in one place for decades
Rastro 31 aug, 2016 @ 13:07
They do that. They're kind of the equivalent of sector defense fleets, I think. They'll defend the homeworld, but little else lol. At least you don't have to pay for them lol.
Aeolio 31 aug, 2016 @ 21:08
their ships sitting all over the place, not just around the homeworld. Besides, science and construction ships are not doing anything either, what use from them for defense? I think there's even a colony ship sitting somewhere as well.

An aside, while i gained control of the colony systems, i believe the other races kept mining stations and research stations outside their home star, which mostly from a visual standpoint, is annoying given the yellow numbers (other nations owning the resources) looks pretty similar to grey (No one owns these resources).
Rastro 31 aug, 2016 @ 21:58
Oh. That somhoukd be fixed. Home star or territory is one thing, but all they built? Nu-uh.

I have seen the federation form by AI.
strange thing was that technology level of federation was zeroed and ship designs were without weapons - as if they started from the beggining
The mod is truly amazing, but the one disappointment was that the UFP just doesn't seem to form the way it really ought to. It really makes steamrolling through the Alpha Quadrant too simple, and as one player put it, it seems to make it balkanized.

Is there some way to make the player the "permanent leader" of the UFP Federation using vanilla federations?
venslor 12 sep, 2016 @ 20:46
I absolutely love this mod and it's impossible to play vanilla Stellaris because of it. Like a couple of the other commentors here, I had the problem of my Federation members blocking me out of good systems with their outposts and I feel like I also didn't gain control of the mining stations when I formed the Federation as I found myself in an enormous energy deficit.

In my most recent game, the UFP was formed by Earth, Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites and Benzites. Now, the way things are now, that means that all four of their homeworlds remained semi-independant. In the previous build, they became vassals and when I grew large enough, I gamed the system by releasing them, vassaling them and then integrating the homeworlds giving me a large, clean area of space without having to worry about new outposts screwing me over.

The new build doesn't allow that, and I have to say, I don't think I like it. On the one hand, I do like the idea of the Vulcans having a fleet to protect their home system (from a RP perspective), but at the same time, Paradox games are part strategy and part map painter (i.e. how big can I get my name on the map!) In my current game I'm boxed in on galactic North, East and West, so my name looks tiny. Stupid, I know, but the homeworld borders really screw with me.

Would it be possible to create a longer Federation formation chain allowing for more choices and diversity in options? I ask as someone who has absolutely no modding experience. But for example, would it be possible to keep the original "Form Federation" "Go it Alone" option, but then have a second pop up give the option, What Type of Federation Should We Form: 1. Form a Federation with a strong Centralized Government (tip: annex all member planets including homeworlds) 2. Form Federation with minimal home control by members (tip: members retain homeworld) 3. Form Federation with strong home control by members (tip: members retain all current colonies and stations)? Obviously, this would be limited by game mechanics, but it would allow individual players to decide which Federation works best for them. Those that do not want to micro manage can leave the members to their own devices, while those players that want to see how big the Federation's insignia can get will also have that option available. Again, I do not know what the limitations are, so I'm just throwing this out there.

Again, thank you so much for this mod and all the work that is being put into it. I'm absolutely blown away by how amazing everything looks. I have about a million questions regarding the choices made in this mod... Lore perspective things, like why did you choose the insignia of the Obsidian Order over the traditional Cardassian insigina (It's awesome is completely acceptable). Nitpicky, down in the weeds stuff that most people don't care about, but that I'm genuinely curious about. Do you have any "Reasons we picked this/did this or that' threads that I can get insight into the thought process? Thank you again.
First of all, thanks for the fantastic mod! I wasn't going to play Stellaris again until the next patch/DLC, but this has made me fall in love with the game all over again.

That said, I have too have to reiterate the complaints here regarding the Federation. I do don't mind member worlds maintaining their autonomy, but it is pretty annoying that they can keep building outposts, blocking me off from colonizing those planets, as I can't even colonize systems of my species' type in their area of space, even though we're part of the same Federation. Also, apart from building outposts, I haven't seen any of them actually *do* anything with their fleets, construction ships, etc... It also is a little weird that there isn't research agreements/shared technology between Federation members. To be honest, my main problem with member worlds maintaining their autonomy is the broken up bits of space nominally under my "control"; I'd really like one cohesive, connected color on the galaxy map. It seems to me that the easiest solution to this is full integration of Federation members, but I understand that a lot of people might not like this as it will make it feel like an empire instead of a federation and the mod *should* encourage players to play how they'd like. The idea venslor proposed, a tiered approach to federation forming, is a good solution if it's possible to code, but I have very little modding experience and leave that decision to more capable people. If that isn't possible, then I really think the best option is to make the Federation a regular Stellaris federation, but with a permanent president. This should be possible as I've seen some mods that claim to do so (though haven't tried them myself to see how they work).

Also, could somebody point me in the right direction for save editing my member worlds to become normal vassals for this playthrough? Until the developers decide which way they're going with the Federation for future versions I'd rather just have a coherent block of space.

Thanks for listening to all our feedback and for creating a fantastic mod!

Hmm...maybe they keep their homeworlds, disables outposts for federation members, and their influence sohere encompasses ONLY their home system.
walshicus 14 sep, 2016 @ 9:58
Just wanted to let you all know we aren't ignoring you here! We've added some cool things to expand the Federation and hopefully reduce issues with them taking good systems via outposts. We're also aware of the bug where AI forming it will get technology zeroed. Hope to have a fix for that with 0.80
So as United Earth I got lucky and managed to get the Bolians to join my pre federation coalition along with the UFP founder races. So I've had the coalition for about 7 years and the UFP event has not triggered. Will it? Or can the UFP not trigger with a none founder race in it?

Great. Nice to hear, that the UFP event will be reworked. When we can expect the 0.8 release? I am excited.
I'm trying to form a coalition with federation required empires but I don't manage to get enough friend with Vulcans to make them join. How do you improve the opinion from others ? I tried to offer them trade agreement with benefits only to them but it improves their opinion too slowly...
Rastro 7 okt, 2016 @ 17:46
They'll eventually vote yes. Though there MIGHT be a faction limit, I don't know exactly, but that may be the reason for the -1000
