as for the event I got it once before. It was called desprate times and it fired right after a short war I had but i cant recreate it for some reason

Yea the ships looks out of place, and break the immersion.

I certainly don't. I didn't even bother building the Crossfield. I tried like hell to retire it and was about to make a post complaining how I couldn't and if it was a bug seeing as I could retire everything else. Then I unlocked the Excellsior and never looked back.
It makes sense though from a balance-standpoint. Jumping superfar with a fleet of spore-drive fit vessels would be a bit OP...
