Strengthening the Borg?
I was recently playing as the Dominion, and when I first discovered the Borg in ~2200, I was disappointed to see that they'd actually LOST a war to another Delta Quadrant AI empire (Krenims, I think), had lost their fleet, and were being eaten up.

I'm not sure if this is actually common, but if so, I'd like to suggest a change to keep the Borg from being beaten back early in the game: strengthening their spaceports significantly.

Since no one else uses the Borg weapons tree (right?), this could be accomplished by giving some huge buffs to the Borg's default spaceport module: lots of extra armor, hull, and weapons, to produce a spaceport that's more like ~3k or even ~5k strength. Alternatively, just give them a cheap and very OP spaceport module tech early in their tech tree.

These much stronger default Borg spaceports would guarantee that the AI couldn't effectively take Borg worlds until much later in the game, and help offset their crippling weakness of losing a world entirely if it's ever successfully invaded.

Possible downsides: could speed up Borg conquest too much if enemy AIs throw their fleets into suicide attacks against stronger Borg spaceports. Could lead to extremely long drawn out wars if AIs defeat the Borg fleet, but can't get any real warscore, and won't or can't white-peace out.

I would have thought the end goal is turn the Borg into an event, like the current "end game" invasions in vanilla, so their current state is merely a "place holder" of sorts...

It would make far more sense to introduce the borg in this fashion, and it could be triggered like the Xindi Weapon event, etc, with Q whisking away one of your admirals to first encounter them...

I discovered the same weak Borg.
When i first met them they were on war with Krenim, Devore and an unknown Empire.
After about 10 Years the Borg were wiped out by them... really disappointing...

What now? Do the Borg get an Comeback as Endgame-Crisis or is this impossible?

dyma's idea is a good one, alternatively it might be nice to see ground battles vs the borg be substantially harder (especially because they get wiped if they lose).

im pretty sure i have read from the devs that there are great plans for the Brog :)

I have seen the Borg being destroyed, but I have also been steamrolled by the Borg as Krenim. So no, the Borg aren't always weak.

However, they seem to have problems when fighting multiple enemies which can take out their space ports and wipe their planets, since their fleets are flying back and forth to no avail.

While they split their fleets when they attack (I have seen them assimilate two allied Voth planets with the first strike), defending planets seems to overrule any attack plans, so they stop attacking when enemy fleets are inside their borders.

I actually like the idea that they can be beaten by other AIs, but it probably occurs a bit too often.

I don't mind that its possible for them to get wiped out, part of the fun of mods that provide alternate timelines is like "what if the borg were never a threat". That being said, it happens way too often. I don't know what drugs they are on, but the Krenim beat the borg about 50% of the time and are basically the Dominion level of power for reasons that are not clear to me based on any show canon. They didn't seem like a Borg or Dominion level threat in the one episode of Voyager or whatever they were in.

mmmmmm I've been out of the star trek world for a while, was Star Trek Online canon? Or considered canon in any way?

Krenim are hardcore in STO.

Well I see other problems, recently it looks like the Borg got a giant buff, in my last game they crushed everyone close to them, the Krenim, the Voth, the Kazon, and all the others were just gone by the time I had even encountered them early in the game, and they already had over 50 worlds and were in a war with Vaduwaar that some how ended in peace and no reprucssions.

Playing as the Romulans even though I was way behind, i made it my mission to wipe them out once I had de-assymilation technology.

But my big issue is that the Voth in ST Voyager were superior to the Borg, and both them and the Krenim had all kinds of technology that the Federation did not.

The Borg are dangerous to the Federation, but their naeighbors are generally on par with them.

Rememeber the Borg are only aware of the Federation and others thanks to Q, and are able to get to them because of secret transwarp conduits and dimensional shifts, they dont get there by conquering the Voth or the Krenim.

Also will we see the Voth Mother ship at some point?

The city ship will come. Eventually.
Storm Vader Mar 23, 2017 @ 11:27am
Harel, how dare you, you will enslave me to playing this mod for hundreds of hours more
