Dota 2
Colosseum
First Impressions- not so good
It seems simplistic, chaotic, and gets boring very quick.
IMO the worst part of this game mode though is how linear it is. There's no strategy- you just run at the enemy and spam all your abilities until dead. Rinse and repeat until one team ragequits.

TF2 is a game played in 3 dimensions- you can go over, under, around, or through. DotA is a game played in two dimensions; if you can't beat the enemy head on you can go around or find another part of the map or ambush them. Haunted Coluseum is a game played in one dimension. You fight over 1 waypoint at a time with no other options.

Honestly this whole thing looks like it was put together by one of the interns on their lunch break. I wish Valve would either do Diretide right or just forget about it altogether. Caving to the people screaming for Diretide on the forums and then doing a half-assed job of it pleases no one.

After playing it myself I'm very disappointed that this is our 'Halloween'. It just feels like Overthrow with some additional features. Like OP said, either make a real event or cancel it. Getting hyped up for a good event only to have it cancelled and changed into a custom game like this seriously sucks. If you're going to release a custom game why not just make a Diretide one? Why has this 'annual' event been cancelled for as many years as it had run? I'd even pay just to play a good fun event like Diretide. I'm disappointed in Valve and hope that they will do better with the next 'annual' event.

I originally titled this thread "first impression" as a joke- I wasn't expecting to come back for a second bite at the apple. But I had a little free time this morning though, so I decided to be fair and give the Colosseum another chance to impress me. It failed. Again.

I didn't even care that my entire team is Russian; this is such a panicky chaotic mess that any attempts at coordination are useless anyway. The bigger problem was that one of our players DC'd the moment we loaded in, and never came back. So playing 4v5 wasn't fun, but at least it was over quick.

Also- I think I died at least half a dozen times to that stupid scythe pendulum. All my normal DotA instincts to try and keep an eye on the entire map work against me here, since the only thing that matters is what's happening within 2 inches of your hero.

Have to agree that people leaving is a huge issue with this mode. I also decided to play the mode a bit more but almost every single time someone would leave, ruining the game. There's no penalty for leaving and no reward for staying so it honestly doesn't surprise me that this is happening. With actual events this wasn't usually a problem since leaving would go towards getting an abandon, and would occasionally give people free items. I won't be playing Haunted Colosseum again any time soon.
Advanced items are buggy and doesn't always combine to one powerfull... You're just left with several basic items...
