Feature Requests
Welcome to the Feature Requests Discussion!
This is the place to share your ideas and suggestions to make RimTunes even better. To help us evaluate your proposals effectively, please follow the guidelines below.

📢 Important Update: Feature Requests Have Moved to GitHub!
As of version 1.5.380, we’ve shifted feature requests to our GitHub repository to streamline submissions and development tracking. We strongly recommend submitting your ideas here: https://github.com/DepsCian/RimTunes/issues/new/choose.
- Why GitHub? It provides a structured platform for submitting, discussing, and prioritizing suggestions, directly tied to the development process.
- How to get started? You’ll need a GitHub account (quick and free to create at https://github.com/join). Then, use the link above to submit your feature request — it’s the best way to ensure your idea gets noticed!

If you’re unable to use GitHub and insist on posting here, that’s acceptable, but please be aware: responses and consideration will be delayed significantly due to the challenges of managing suggestions outside our primary workflow. For the fastest feedback and impact, GitHub is highly recommended!

📋 How to Submit a Feature Request:
For the optimal experience, use our GitHub link: Submit a Feature Request[github.com]. If posting here, please include:
  1. Clear and concise title: Start with a short, descriptive title summarizing your idea (e.g., "Improved Playlist Management").
  2. The problem you want to solve: Briefly explain the issue or limitation you’ve encountered that inspires your suggestion.
  3. Your proposed solution: Describe your idea in detail — how it would work and why it benefits users.
  4. Supporting details: Include examples, screenshots, or references to similar features in other tools (optional but helpful).

🎯 Example Submission:
Title: Add Bulk Song Removal from Playlists
Problem: Currently, songs must be removed from playlists one by one, which is time-consuming for larger playlists.
Proposed Solution: Introduce an option to select multiple songs for removal, accessible via a context menu or hotkeys.
Supporting Details: This functionality exists in application XYZ, where it’s implemented seamlessly and improves workflow significantly.

💡 Tips for Effective Suggestions:
  1. Be brief but thorough — a well-structured suggestion is easier to evaluate.
  2. Avoid duplicates — check existing requests (ideally on GitHub) to see if your idea’s already been proposed.
  3. Think big — ambitious ideas are welcome; every improvement starts with a concept!

Thank you for contributing your ideas! Your feedback shapes the future of RimTunes. For the quickest response and best chance of implementation, please submit via GitHub[github.com]. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts! ❤️

1. need some hotkeys which jumps to next music or previous music. or pause / open interface.
2. shuffle the playlist. (now seems it plays from a to z when I selected a song or press 'next song' button. a random-play works fine when it plays itself while in-game.)
3. need some sort filter. now it has only 'name' and 'duration', but how about 'mod' filter? which is filtering songs by each mod they came from.
4. when I make playlist from library only, need some sort filters too. and scroll select. if possible.

thanks for great mod!

Hi, thanks for the feedback!

1. Hotkeys are a great idea.
This feature will likely be added in version 1.5.2.

2. Issue with songs playing in alphabetical order:
This was actually a bug. It has been fixed, and playlist shuffling will be introduced in the upcoming update (1.5.188).

3. "Mod" filter:
A "mod" filter has already been added in version 1.5.187.

4. Sorting and scroll selection:
These features for creating playlists from the library were also added in version 1.5.187.

Thanks again for your suggestions! I hope you enjoy the upcoming updates.

Hey! This mod seems really cool but I noticed three things that bothered me somewhat:
  1. You can't select music on other drives (like D: and E:). I imagine that for most people this doesn't really matter, but in my case I put all of my music in a specific drive.
  2. There's no way to do a multiple action for anything. This is kind of a deal breaker for me. If I have to manually add 100+ songs to a playlist in order to only listen to my own music then I might as well just use an external music player. I see that in the music library you can select multiple songs but it doesn't seem to do anything (maybe I'm doing something wrong?).
  3. RimWorld's music volume setting doesn't seem to do anything. Would be nice if you could change the volume like this instead of using the pretty obscure volume slider in the music menu.

That said this is a really cool mod. It's really impressive that you basically recreated explorer in RimWorld.

Hi, thanks for the feedback!

1. Yes, this will be added!
I didn’t think of it earlier, as I was mainly working with a single drive setup myself. Thanks for pointing this out, and it will be included in an upcoming update!

2. Regarding selecting multiple songs:
As you mentioned, you can already select multiple songs in the library. After doing so, you can use the hotkeys Ctrl + C to copy them, then go to the playlist where you want to add the songs and press Ctrl + V to paste them.
I realize this should also be accessible via the context menu, and I’ll add that in the next patch. Until then, hotkeys are the way to go!

3. About the volume slider:
Yes, this is an obvious issue. Unfortunately, integrating RimWorld’s volume slider with this mod is a bit tricky and will require extra work to “tame” its behavior. For now, the slider appearing when hovering over the volume button is my design choice to keep the UI minimalistic, but I understand how it can feel unintuitive. I'll consider improvements in future updates.

Thanks again for your detailed feedback! I really appreciate your suggestions and hope you’ll enjoy the upcoming fixes and features.

1. Separate combat, event (Anomaly DLC) and ambient music types
2. Ability to select different playlists and merge them into a (new/existing) one, if possible
3. Possible compatibility with Music Expanded Framework (Right now you need to toggle vanilla music update so it can work with autoplay of Rimtunes)

Hi, thanks for the suggestions!

1. Separate combat, event (Anomaly DLC), and ambient music types:
This is already on the Future Plans list. Right now, you can manually adjust each playlist to suit your taste and playstyle, but in the future, I plan to introduce "presets" that will dynamically include playlists or tracks based on in-game situations.

2. Ability to select different playlists and merge them into a (new/existing) one:
This is an interesting idea, and I can see how it would be incredibly useful for organizing custom playlists. I’ll be adding this feature in the next update—stay tuned!

3. Compatibility with Music Expanded Framework:
This is indeed a complex challenge that would require significant effort to implement. Right now, my focus is on completing the Future Plans list, which contains other key features and improvements. While I won’t be able to address this in the near future, I’ll keep it in mind as a potential long-term goal.

Thanks again for sharing your ideas! It’s great to see the community so engaged in improving RimTunes, and your feedback plays a huge role in shaping its future.

Title: Add a customizable delay between songs.
Problem: Currently, songs play one-after-another with no delay. I'd love a delay to calm down from one song before another starts.
Proposed Solution: Have a customizable delay option. Even better if it can be semi-random - ie "20 minutes between songs (+/- 10 minutes)
Supporting Details: This is how I listen to music in similar games - Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft, Vintage Story, they all have times of silence between tracks. I think this is even how Music Manager worked? Memory might be wrong there tho.

Apologies if this is already a feature I overlooked.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, I know this feature would be very fitting and improve the mod's functionality significantly. Right now, I'm facing some personal difficulties that are taking up most of my time. Once things settle down, I plan to get back to improving RimTunes.

This suggestion is definitely on my radar, and I plan to add it along with the dynamic music system from the Future Plans list when I have the bandwidth to do so.

Thanks again for your feedback! I appreciate it and look forward to getting back to development as soon as possible. ♥️
Future suggestion: possibility to add all music from some specific mod into the playlist (in the same manner as it looks like in "my library"). As for now I've found only how to add songs separately.
Also when the playlist is already created, there is no button to import external music (not from mods). Or I just cannot see it...

Hi, thanks for the suggestion!

This feature is already available! To add all tracks from a specific mod to your playlist, simply go to the mods tab (select the desired mod on the left), highlight all the tracks with Ctrl + A (or select them manually like in a file explorer), then press Ctrl + C. After that, go to your playlist and paste them with Ctrl + V.

If the playlist is already created and you want to add music, there’s a [+] button at the top of interface that lets you import tracks, including external ones (not from mods). It might have just slipped your notice!

Thanks for your feedback! Let me know if anything else isn’t clear. ♥️

It seemed to me that [+] only allows to create new playlist, but I'll look more carefully, thank you

Ah, found it, it's at the very top! Sorry :) and thank you for the great mod.
