I thought I might find the option in the squad select MCM, but I did not. I have downloaded one UI mod called squad manager just because I am struggling to keep track of my roster of 67 soldiers. It is a nice UI mod, and I want to expand from a limit of 6 to 12 so that I have plenty of redundancy within the teams I organize so that when I send people off to covert ops or training that I can still find a complete team of 6 within the subgroups I make out of my roster. I know the missions were balanced for teams of 6 and so all of this is just a matter of conveinence and neatness and nothing to do with altering gameplay.
