Why does the map have such large amounts of empty space? (TLDR below)
Disclaimer: I will admit i haven't read any of the lore except for Major and Minor faction lore.

I get the desert for example is just to create a map border. But things like the border between the Hakkon Empire and Realm of the Falcon has a huge empty space inbetween it. To a point where if any faction owns things on both sides of the border it looks weird.

Then North and North-West of Aroulo Ojibwaka theres a bunch of islands that you can walk to and are even connected, but its completely empty. It isn't even like it is just a small portion. No those islands are as big as 2 smaller major factions combined.
I did explore there out of curiosity and i didn't find any hidden minor factions or anything. Maybe i didn't look thorough enough but it also isn't like theres a reason to go there.

Last example is the western part of Tolrania. Now i know the north-west is empty for the Zann Invasion. But i do not get why that one Tolranian castle is so far away from everything and in the middle of yet another unexplained empty space.

I understand that alot of the factions in this mod are not native to perisno so it explains in some part why there is uncolonized land. But some parts are excessively empty. Especially the islands just look way too detailed to be empty.

This brings me to my last point: Is there so much empty land because theres planned expansions in new factions, or is it literally just "Most factions came to perisno not too long ago, so there is still alot of land left unclaimed".

The Hakkon and Falcon border i cannot figure out a reason for though.

TLDR: Lots and lots of empty spaces, pretty much 1/4th of the map (which also you can explore to) is completely empty, some parts i can understand, some parts seem nonsensical. Are there any expansions planned?

P.S. This is in no way a hate post. I love this mod, its my fav warband mod. (Although sometimes its really really tedious how strong even low level enemies are)

I believe the Falcon border has so much empty space because the idea with the Falcon is that they're isolated in their massive forest and tend to avoid war in the lore.

The empty space in the Western part of the map is more questionable. The easy answer would be "planned content" that never came to fruition. If I had to guess it might have been the Asian-style Zann/Jin continent that the Zann fled from. The lore of the Zann is that they invaded Perisno because they were expelled from the Western continent by the Jin dynasty (The companion Shi Jin mentions this as part of his backstory.)

That's my best theory for the Western continents and it makes some sense considering the Aroulo are a strange Native American-style faction that seem unrelated to the elves despite being close to them on the map. It might just be that the map doesn't scale well, and maybe the devs canned the idea since it would make the Zann invasion stranger from a map standpoint.

seems logical. Thanks!

The empty space where the Zann is supposed to land is inhabited by the County of Lymbard, they are highly aggressive against you and Tolrania, or anyone really. But they are friendly/ not hostile to 1 or 2 tolranian lords I believe, which are the ones who are carrying purple coloured banners, and I bet that one guy holds the castle that is inside the county of lymbard. As for the empty space by the Freelancer outpost, it is inhabited by the Klymorian Empire/Tribes. Who are a minor faction again hostile to you and everyone, they are the old enemies of the Kingdom of Perisno. As for the one in the Aroulo territory it must be remnants of old code or a new faction territory coming in. Its been there for a long time and the Klymorians came without any towns and are a minor faction so I bet its just gonna be another territory for a minor faction probably Aroulo based?

thanks for the clearing up

Why did planet Earth's map had a lot of empty space around middle ages (and some of them still exist to this day)? Deserts, polar deserts, uninhabited islands, empty steppes that nomadic people traversed back and forth but didn't settle in, cold and unfriendly regions of Siberia?

Hakkon didn't want to settle too close to elven forests, RoTf people also tried to move away from the rest of the world by settling in the far end of their forest.
Islands are simply uninhabited, no-one needs those useless forests with their "tundras and taigas and bears, oh my!". Aroulo still have plenty of room on their own and other factions have more important things to do in their life than try and populate far-off islands.
The north-west of Tolrania is Lymbardian land and so is that castle (disputed territory, it currently belongs to Tolrania but the family that owns it has ties & agreement with Lymbard).

I think Lymbard should be its own faction like the geldar or the cretes monarchy where they have 1 or 2 castles and a few villages with wondering armies to patrol its borders rather than actual lords. Lymbard as of the current version, has a full on troop tree with a lot of decent units, I was lucky to find some Lymbard infantry at the merc guild and wanting to give em a spin and it turns out their master at arms are quite swag. In previous versions the Lymbard troops only had 2 varients the squire and knight along with a dismounted varient for infantry. For a minor wondering party this makes sense but now they actually have a full troop tree with recruits, archers, infantry, cavalry etc and is getting the faction treatment.

I think Lymbard would make a nice minor kingdom to act as a challenger to the Tolrania like the Geldar is to Elintor and would make a nice buffer zone between the Zann and Tolrania because in my experience Tolrania gets destroyed Every. Single. Game. Its hard enough to be surrounded on all sides getting their asses kicked then the Zann comes in like "Imma end this mans whole career" and Tolrania never makes it past day 200.

I just wanted to step in with that e.e I always found it odd with lots of empty space, maybe they should add the feature where you can build castles to the game. Falcon makes sense tho because their whole objective is to isolate themselves so they go off into the mountains with large forests to hide but Hakkon takes their land anyway ;)

Any thoughts on the Lymbard idea?

I think the County of Lymbard was made that way because I think they basically exist as lore filler as well as another step up from Bandits and Wandering Criminals to farm. As you can see Volheere raiders and Saccar raiders were the most easiest to farm early to mid game as they yield a lot of equipment and aurums when sold, but then we have the Lymbardians who drop even more expensive gear and sell for decent aurums. And then we have the Klymorians who are abundant in 50+ parties and their equipment is super good and sell for alot alongside when captured and sold. Dont mention the amount of exp they drop. These minor factions add as farms for players who want to level up themselves and their parties. A nice option would be as time goes on they could possibly form their own kingdom as with the Venetor Empire questline which I will not spoil on what happens. The Lymbards and Klymorians could have their own questlines that yield special rewards and or events. But as of right now they are good late game farm and are useful for distracting the Zann when they start consolidating

I also took notice of the extra space TWO YEARS ago. If this mod had the 'Build your own castle' function like in Nova Aetas, those empty areas would make great spots to build up your own kingdom.
