[Bug?] Quest - "The Rapier" : where you hunt for the Dueler
Unsure if this is a bug, glitch, or just a work in progress quest.

I got a quest from a "Weapon Enthusiast" in a tavern somewhere. The quest was "The Rapier" and the goal was to go to training grounds and speak to the trainers there to get information to track down the owner of the rapier who goes by the name "Dueler".

It was the first trainer I spoke to so I did the normal training stuff of going through 3 novices, 3 veterans, and 3 champions to get the experience. After that I spoke to him about the dueler and he said he'd give me information if I could be 3 of his top fighters in a row.

I said yes of course and was thrown into a fight with a single "Ace Combatant" (or whatever) and after the fight it ends just like any fight does where you get dropped out by the trainer again.

Talking to him gives me the options of telling him "I'm ready to fight" or "I need some time". Fighting just makes me fight another lone ace and drop out again. Asking for a bit of time just cancels out of the conversation. If I then talk to him again I can tell him that "I'm ready to fight his men" but it just does a lone ace again.

I never get 3 at once or 3 in succession. Even aftering fighting ~20+ by telling him I'm ready for more nothing happens.

Long story short, the fight doesn't appear to work as intended and I never get any further information from him or have any way to ask again about the dueler / rapier.

I believe for me it was I had to win 3 fights in a row against those ACE's, very easy to be honest after which the Trainer tells you where to look for the Dueler.
Passed the quest and got the Rapier in the latest version so should work as intended

Did you visit a trainer before ever getting the quest and already go through all the normal fights you can do there?

I've had three characters at this point who have all gotten this quest to be stuck with just endlessly repeatable ace combantant fights. No matter how many times I visit or fight the aces its just a fight against a single ace and then I'm dumped back into conversation where I can repeat this process forever. No matter how many aces I fight it never pits me against them in a row or ever counts as being complete.

In all of those cases I hadn't visit the trainer prior to getting the quest and / or I hadn't done the normal fights available there.

@BOYCOTT S-T-E-AM!

Exact same bug. I am stuck in this loop whenever I choose to "fight his men". Could be that this quest works only if you've never gone to a trainer before.

Yeah. Its unforunate.

I'm hoping Shuraalex there can shed some light on the order they did things in and exactly how it played out.
Hmm.. I did this a quest a few days ago but cant remember exactly all the steps if accurate..
1) Found a quest giver in one of the large cities (arendal or forde) could have been from the arena guys
2) Told me to visit the training grounds that are located out side the cities(not the arena)
3) Ask the training ground training about the dueler
4) had to duel some fighters (not related to the actual training duels - nov to champ etc)
5) after beating said fighters ,was told to find dueler (look at quest description for location)
6) completed regular training (novice to champ) but didnt continue the dueler quest after
6) 300+ days past before i actually went to said location and completed the quest (no spoiler)

At some point prior to having gotten that quest did you already do the regular (nov to champ) fights with a trainer?

For me, I did already fight a training fight before I got the quest....that may be it.

I just created the character and started out in Maccan(could have been maccan where i picked up the quest that points you to a training ground).
Starting the Duelers quest might have actually been the first thing i did.
I completed the novice to champion fights AFTER I completed the duelers fight.(i dont think i even 'esc' out)

Start another char and just find the quest giver and go straight to the training field and test it out.

Now that you guys mention it I have never fought in the training fields before doing the quest, I simply played my game untill I got the quest then found a training field and went forth as it should.
Perhaps fighting in the Training Field before doing this quest or even accepting it - breaks it.
Has anyone ever found a workaround for this?

Bumping this. I scoured the net and can't find anything on it. I'm having the same problem and in my beginning backup save my character has already done the training. I guess I'll try making a new character since I've already made about six today before I found what I wanted.

For anyone with this problem still, I've managed to edit my save file to fix this bug, using Mount & Blade SaveGame Editor & Converter. You have to change the values "num_opponents_to_beat_in_a_row (323)" to 3 and "novice_training_difficulty (327)" to 3. Both are under "#global_variables".
You'll have to fight 3 Ace fighters, but when you're done, he will tell you what you need to know.
If it doesn't work, ask here, I'll try to help, otherwise, just fiddle with the save, I'm sure there is something else that can help (Pretty sure there is something that should be like "qst_rapier_trainer", or something like that, but I can't find it)

where do you find the duelist after reading the book?
