January 2024 update:
I touch on this over at The Old World campaign, but there's a limit to the number of provinces (not regions) you can have before the corruption shader (the textures that appear on the ground) stops working properly and I have to turn it off. And since this mod is supposed to be a faithful recreation of Immortal Empires (but with more stuff), I'll have to stop adding provinces at that limit.
All of this to say, I can only add 4 more provinces. Maybe a couple more if I consolidate some of the added islands into other provinces.

I will say that there are four things I want to do soon, after the 4.0 update:
  • Another small expansion east, finish off Nippon and Elithis's east coast
  • One more provinces for Ihan.
  • Another three provinces north of the Eastern Steppe and Ihan.
  • Some type of underwater single-settlement island. Like a hole in the ocean reaching down to the sea floor, waterfalls all around. Melay if you want a lore connection.

I'll comment on the obvious:
  • The Realms of Chaos from the other map doesn't actually fit in the northeast, even shrunken down by 90%, so would need to expand the map north. Also I guess everyone wants it actually playable, so there'd need to be connections to the rest of the map, as well as with each other. And Slaanesh's realm isn't really that great to be played in, would be a rework. And basically nothing about the idea is easy, even though I think I said it was easy before.
  • Lumbria I'll only do if CA adds Nippon themselves. Lumbria will involve making a bunch of stuff up, so I'm not going to do that until I'm left with no other creative outlet.

Here's a general idea of what's easy/annoying/hard:

Easy
  • Expanding the map further east (This is what I did to fit Nippon in, if you haven't noticed) or north.
  • Adding new land mass, for instance an island. Or expanding a coastline... as long as there wasn't a port settlement on it.
  • New Areas of Interest, although it's a bit annoying that they'd have to be "baked-in" to the map. Because of that, I'm less inclined to add them to vanilla parts of the map, but willing to add some in the new areas.

Annoying
  • Doing very small and spread-out things, like adding new settlements here and there. In the event I need to update the map to match some change CA does, it will drive me crazy having to check 50 different places scattered about the map.
  • Moving vanilla settlements. The map is usually designed around a settlement, like heightmap, props, etc. so both the former and later placement will need some treatment. This goes with that "small and spread-out things" tbh

Super Annoying, And Not Just For Me
  • Expanding the map west or south. This will ruin coordinates since the bottom left corner of the map is always (0,0), which means a bunch of db tables will need to be updated, a bunch of scripts, many mods won't be compatible anymore. Very very messy.
  • Inserting space between existing continents has the same problem as above, coordinates ruined.
  • Removing regions or settlements, not that I think anyone wants that.
  • Changing in-land settlements to ports, or port settlements to in-land. Slots, script confusion, etc.

Hard
  • Doing a complete map overhaul and having it look *good*. I cannot stress how crafted and detailed Immortal Empires is, redoing it would take thousands of hours. Even "just" chopping stuff up and moving it around would take hundreds and hundreds.

Completely Out-Of-Scope - ie. I Will Strangle You If You Suggest These
  • Making the placeholder factions anything but placeholders. I leave that to other mods.
  • "True" Nippon, Khuresh, Ind, or Eastern Steppe factions. Again, other mods.
  • Landmark buildings for the new settlements. Other mods.
  • Renaming vanilla settlements. Rotating vanilla settlements. Changing vanilla settlement models. Other mods.
  • Adjusting the starting positions of any vanilla faction. While it's possible to diverge from Mixer's setup, that's not what people will be expecting, so it's out of scope.
  • Adjusting vanilla props, ie. errors. Just more things to maintain. No thank you. However, if you notice some errors that I have introduced to Immortal Empires, then yes, please report those.
  • Adjusting the vanilla province set-up. I need to follow Mixer's set up, particularly with the slot templates. So no. (Adding regions to existing provinces seems to be okay, and renaming them... ehhhh, only if they clash with the new additions like "Eastern Steppes" did)

If possible it would be very cool to have a lore accurate sized map, ideally by increasing the size of other locations on the map rather than having to shrink down the Empire

The sea dragon mod adds Nippon units, would be cool to see them in these new lands. But maybe they will add them?

Hello dear ChaosRobie!) Oh my god this is so cool!!! Thank you man!!!) I apologize in advance for my bad English....((Thank you so much for Nippon, the Kingdoms of Ind, Khuresh Nagas and special thanks for "Korea"!) I have only one idea, add 2 more playable races to the "Far East". I'm glad that you added an analogue of "Korea" to the FB world. Knowing the old lore of Great Cathay, we can say that the analogy of Korea was mentioned there, though it was called differently. In some sources like Chao Xin, in others like Han Kuo.Whatever you call her, anyway thank you for Korea in the FB world!) True, there is a small request - an idea. Also based on the knowledge of the old lore, we can say that Great Cathay also borders on the human states. In the mountains to the south and southwest (on the border of the Indus Kingdoms and the lands of Khuresh) is the fragmented country of Kitserava. Kitserava is a tracing paper for medieval Tibet. Kitcerava is a fragmented mountainous country. It does not have a single king. Kitserava consists of many small principalities. The other 2 countries are in the lands of Khuresh. Khuresh is the land, like the New World. We know that in the old world there is the Empire, Bretonnia, Kislev, Norsca, Albion, Estalia, Tilea, Border Princes, Athel Loren, Karaz Ankor, as well as many beastmen, orcs and goblins hiding in the forests of the Old World, as well as skaven. So, what am I talking about, in Khuresh, in addition to the Bloody Nagas, there are human countries and kingdoms that are not subject to the Bloody Nagas. And 2 of them are Sivkang and Taylan, in fact, tracing paper for Vietnam and Thailand. True, Sivkang and Taylan can be combined into one playable race - "Kingdoms of Khuresh". These countries are also fragmented, some of the principalities of Sivkang and Taylan are at war with Grand Cathay and the Kingdoms of the Ind, others are in friendly trade relations with these states. Although the Bloody Nagas live in the lands of Khuresh, there are human states besides them. who do not obey the Bloody Nagas, and moreover, are at war with them. Please add Kitserava and Kingdoms of Khuresh (kingdoms of Sivkang and Taylan). Thank you so much for your gigantic work!!!)

+ to the nippon stuff, would be nice to even have a basic faction for them and Korea

Mixu's Unlocker compatible version please!

Maybe add the chaos realms back in somehow? It's a shame that there's no way of seeing any of their battle maps and arts in immortal empires, maybe also add some minor demon factions and settlements in there since there's so few of them in the immortal empires map.
And Instead of using portals like the campaign, it'd probably be more straightforward to just use sea lanes for transportation between the realms and chaos wastes.

I'm sure this is already planned, but compatibility with OVN, Cataph, Mixu, and various other faction modders would be amazing. This would, in particular, make Araby's presence on the map a lot more feasible.
Cebi Jul 22, 2023 @ 5:14pm
I was gonna say seeing Araby area being a bit bigger would be cool just because there are more than enough factions in that area that the space that currently exists makes any modding for that area tricky, but someone already mentioned it.

So only other thing is a true Chaos Realms section of the map kinda like in the campaign but more fleshed out.
Lidiaz Jul 22, 2023 @ 5:20pm
There's a lot of forest in Kuresh, making a lot of empty space. I'd be cool to have a wood elf forest in that space, for example below the "Shedding Grounds" settlement.
Dream Traveler Jul 22, 2023 @ 5:47pm
I've waited so long for this and am amazed once again at the incredible work modders can perform. <3

Following up on thoughts for some areas like the Old World and Araby being smaller or bigger than they could/should be:

I don't know if it would ever be possible, but it would be really cool if it was possible to create separate maps for these areas that you "crossed over into" when you got close to them.

For example: You make the Old World smaller on the grand world map to reflect its true "closer to Europe" size, and as your character or their ship approaches it's borders you trigger an event or hit a marker (maybe similar to the kind used for sea lanes) that allows you to switch to a completely different map where the Old World is just as big as it is in the current Immortal Empires map. Similar triggers and map switches could be placed anywhere else they might be useful to "enhance the scale" on a region. Some other possible examples might include the forest of Athel Loren, the island of Albion, or the deserts of Araby.
JediMasterDraco Jul 22, 2023 @ 6:02pm
I'm just gonna throw out my usual keyboard-faceroll request of more slots per territory so I can continue my old RTW/M2TW habit of "F- it, build everything."

If you can edit the Immortal Empires map, then there are a couple of interesting ideas.

I. Arabia Peninsula - very small. You can enlarge it a bit. She lacks 2 provinces: 1 Land of the Dervishes, has 3 cities: El-Calabad, Wadi el Tibuk, Elven Colony (ruined city). 2. The Great Desert of Arabia with 3 cities: Bel-Aliyad (destroyed), Oasis Mazul, Turjuk Camps. And rename the current province of the Dervishes into Culf of Medes with 2 cities - Sudenburg and Antoch (the current city of El-Calabad).

II. Divide Shifting Sands province into 2 provinces: Nubia (with 3 cities: Ka-Sabar, Athiopos Lands and Affars gold mines), and Plain of Tuskers (with 3 cities: City of Fangs, Ebonians Camp, Zamesi Sity).

III. Slightly change the provinces in Nehekhara:
Land of Dead: Khemri, The Salt Plains, Zandri
Cracked Land: Black Tower of Arkhan, Pools of Despair
Ash River: Numas, Qatar
Great Sandy Desert: Bhagar, Sprint of Eternal Life

IV. Nautican. Between the Southern Lands and Lustria is the Great Ocean. You can add there numerous "underwater" islands - Nautikan. The sunken lands of the Nautican may in the future become lands for Sea Elves (Idoneth), or Menfish. Here you can also add another "sunken province" with the capital Chupayotl.

V. Map of the Realm of Chaos (Possessions of the 4 Gods of Chaos and the Forge of Souls from the Realm of Chaos campaign). Is it possible to somehow add them to the north of the campaign map, at least in a slightly reduced form? it would be nice.

VI. I understand that unfortunately today it is not possible to edit the campaign map by increasing it in size. However, if you have the opportunity in the future, please add Lumbria (analogy to Australia), Lemuria (analogy to New Zealand and Popua New Guinea) and Oceania (an archipelago of islands) and the trimmed islands in West Nagoroth (Monster Isles, Gorgon Isles).

Lands that are not in the official lore of the FB world.

You can add a huge island near the Southern Lands, an allusion to Madagascar, and call it whatever you like. For example, Monkeyman Island.

You can also add a mountain range stretching from the Worlds Edge Mountains and ending in the Mountains of Sorrow. This mountain range can be divided into 2 provinces and named as the Irrana Mountains. This mountain range will separate the Darklands from the Bone Plain and the Scalded Delta. The city of Pigbarter can be renamed Babilah or Persepolis. In the future, you can put the playable race Persia there with its sub-factions, which can be located in these two provinces.

In no case do you think something bad. These are just ideas.

This is amazing! Thank you very much!

My only request would be adding more land to the north of the map to make the steppes larger. This would allow the possibility for Hobgoblins and/or Kurgan/Hung additions to the game.

My suggestion would be expanding the steppes north of Cathay - the region is a very narrow strip as of now, meaning that there is not much space for factions like Vilitch or Zhatan. Expanding the region would mean more space for the factions north of the Great Bastion, as well as the Cathayans to play around in and potentially open room for Hobgoblins who have a large empire in the region.
Some people mentioned Araby, but could you please also give Estalia and Tilea some love? Lore accurate size and towns? They are very out of proportions, and I am sure Southern Realm modders will appreciate your work.
