If you need to create a forest of trees or have some placed far in the distance away from the tracks, try to use 2D sprites instead of 3D models. Otherwise, this will cause an unneeded framerate drop.

Thank you, I have worked on thinning those out since I first started. I bet you are referring to Suffern itself - all those trees cause a lag there for me. I will add this to bucket list. I appreciate your comment - so I can focus on working on what you find.

Update - September 2014 - Ongoing - reducing tree density and using more 2D trees just beyond the foreground to save on processor. Building Density now becoming issue. Some stutter noticeable where the Map Squares meet. Stutter in Ridgewood, Waldwick and Ramsey.

Is it possible to add custom content to the route on Workshop? I'm just asking, because if it is possible then I'd be willing to try modelling a special custom asset or two for you, if there was some static object like a distinctive building that you really wish you could add.

DTG says yes, If you create content, and they approve it can be submitted as a DLC and then could be purchased for a nominal fee. There are some threads about this. I avoided making assets for this route as I never would have finished the assets or the route! Most Needed Assets are trailers for shipping containers, Trailers with out tractors and the big one ... Hoboken Terminal.

Hoboken Terminal...well, THAT would be an epic effort.

I'm looking at https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7354887,-74.0307379,307a,20y,90h,41.7t/data=!3m1!1e3 and panning around and...I think it might be doable. Hope you aren't in a hurry!

I would like DTG to take a crack at this! I have allowed for a possibility of a follow up route which could include Hoboken. It would be the same route but have the Main Line through Patterson NJ which meets up with the Bergen Line after Secaucus. 19mile plus what ever it takes to get to Hoboken .. about 3 miles or so. Very large, unique and complex structure is that Terminal. Then, the surrounding area and the backup drop of Manhattan. I shudder thinking of the time. But to build that ... epic.

Mr. Reid - I viewed your lighting discussion in the Train Simulator forums today, that project is a huge and magnificent undertaking. If your were building letters with those lights, it would take the breath away of anyone who viewed it. Please accept these images below to encourage you forward. As of Today, I am 16.78 Miles from the buffers at Hoboken Terminal.

I'll have a teaser for you by the weekend; I just need to do the clock face and some texturing on the roof, at that point everything but setting up the lights for TS will be done as far as that iconic tower is concerned, and I can look at the export/import process.

If you build this ... I have to go all the way. The thought of the Terminal actually completed and then to have the track, Hoboken and the backdrop of the Manhattan Island all there to showcase this building ... it is like a dream. My current realistic time table is 15 weeks to get to Croxton. It really depends on the scenery. I believe your serious. I would also easily understand if you could not. To see this building would inspire me to go to the Hudson River. Thank you for your efforts!

There's no rush, concentrate on the line as you planned for Christmas. It will take a while to build even the exterior, and I have no clue about what the interior platforms are like (I expect lots of little shops etc)...and then you have to lay the tracks for that monster yard, yikes! THERE will be a job and a half!

The thing that made me decide to go for something as insane as this is the thought of how awesome it would be running scenarios into and out of that terminal...I *have* to build it, you understand. It just needs to be done.

I expect lots of "fun" trying to figure out how to get this stuff into TS, but I'm positive it's going to happen :D

Thank you! Some of those maps and pictures are very useful. I just finished up my major work for the week, so I can get back to finishing up the clocktower tomorrow night.

Thought I'd be done by now, but I've spent all day trying to bake the high-poly maps to the low-poly model. Meh, I'll figure it out eventyally; in the meantime, here's a rendering of the high-poly version. Needs some TLC, but it's getting close.

I think I'll start on the YMCA building next, with it's nice sign on the western facade:

I was going to ask you to consider that ... my father has slept in there ... I have been in there!
