New Feature Suggestion: Loot Controller
Considering just how much loot you can get and how varied it is, I suggest adding a 'loot controller'. Its function is simple and clear: anything placed in it will automatically be evenly distributed across any regular storage that contains that particular item. (If no containers contain that it, it will be left in the loot box. The only exceptions are A) items with a perish time, which will be sent to a fridge, and B) structures will be placed in storage with other structures.)

Optionally, the names of containers could have codes appended to them--based on crafting categories?--to denote types of items for even more complete sorting. For example, 'Building Stuff [:CBSBHB:]' would cause the loot controller to send capital, small, and hover blocks to that particular container, even if no container has that particular item.

In practice, you just make a wifi connection to the loot box, then start looting/salvaging. When you eventually get back to the ship, there should be very little left in the loot controller to sort out.

Does that sound reasonable?

That being said, can it be done using a script that looks for storage named 'Loot_Box'? (...or w/e)

There are API mods that can be installed and used on servers that can do auto sorting and such of loot, but that's outside of a scenario.
