🚩 TROUBLESHOOTING & BUG REPORTS (no longer supported)
Reforged Eden 1 is no longer being supported:
It will continue to receive any critical updates required for function provided they are easy to do, but I will offer no other support on Reforged Eden 1.
I strongly recommend playing Reforged Eden 2 instead.

Before you post:
  • Please fully read through the instructions and try the basic troubleshooting methods posted below where applicable.
  • Check if your issue has already been reported under the list of known issues, or read through some of the recent replies in this post or on the main comments section.
  • The game developers generally cannot assist with problems encountered while playing custom scenarios, and custom scenarios cannot assist with game bugs. This makes it important to first check if the problem happens in a vanilla save game so you know the proper place to report the issue.
  • The Reforged Eden workshop page is the only place I can offer support. I do not offer support on Discord or any other forum.

Troubleshooting steps:
Look over the in-game Empyriopedia in the PDA (F1 key) in case your question is answered in there.
If you're encountering an issue in the game first try some of these steps.
Not all steps will apply depending on your specific issue and where it's happening (single player, coop, or dedicated server, etc).
Many problems can be solved by doing one of the following steps. If the problem still happens after doing one step try the next step.
If you are playing single player internet access to the Steam network is required unless you have installed a local copy of the scenario.

Troubleshooting for single player:
  1. Fully exit the game back to Windows and then launch it again.

  2. If you are playing on a server then contact your server admin for assistance as it's likely to be an issue on their end. If you are playing single player then try the steps below.

  3. Verify the Reforged Eden build number shown on the loading screen or top left of the player inventory matches the latest build number shown in the Change Notes. If it does not then you are running an outdated version of the scenario and trying either of the below steps may update it for you.

  4. Validate files in Steam. Right click Empyrion in your Steam Library > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

  5. Unsubscribe and resubscribe to the scenario on the Steam Workshop.

  6. If the problem does not involve a scenario specific POI, block, or NPC then try to reproduce the problem in a vanilla save game using the same situation, game mode, and type (survival or creative, singleplayer coop or dedicated server, space or planet, etc). If the problem happens in vanilla you can report the issue on the game's bug reporting form.

  7. If none of the above has solved the problem please report the issue here.

Troubleshooting for server admins:
  1. Fully exit the game back to Windows and then launch it again.

  2. Verify the Reforged Eden build number shown on the loading screen or top left of the player inventory matches the latest build number shown in the Change Notes. If it does not then you are running an outdated version of the scenario and trying either of the below steps may update it for you.

  3. Validate files in Steam. Right click Empyrion in your Steam Library > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.

  4. Unsubscribe and resubscribe to the scenario on the Steam Workshop.

  5. Update the scenario on your server by re-uploading all scenario files to your server. Make sure to use the same scenario folder name as the scenario's name cannot be changed in an existing save game.

  6. If you use a FTP client to upload files, make sure the transfer mode is set to binary in your FTP client to avoid missing block models and visual effects.

  8. If none of the above has solved the problem please report the issue here.

Reporting an issue:
  • Make a new comment here with as much detail as you can.
Please be specific by using the exact names as shown in-game when mentioning the names of items, blocks, POIs, etc if you are able.
  • Include star class, playfield type and any other identifiers to help know what playfield type the problem happens in, if applicable.
  • Please do not include whole logs, but parts of logs that show a specific error will help.
  • Check out the list of known issues below to make sure your issue has not already been reported.

Loud sound constantly plays in coop or some sounds are too loud:
For the coop sound bug: Alt-tab out of the game and open your Windows Volume Control. Mute the extra copies of Empyrion shown in the Volume Mixer. This will mute your coop server so it doesn't constantly play sounds.

For custom sounds being too loud: Adjust your volume settings in-game. Effects should be kept at 100% as they do not control custom sounds added in the scenario. If you put effects volume lower than 100%, sound effects added in the scenario will be louder than intended in comparison to other game sounds.

Multiplayer: Some block models are white cubes, missing projectile effects:
Re-upload the scenario files to the server and make sure if using a FTP client that you set the transfer mode to "binary".
Delete the cache for the save game on the server. Clients may need to also delete their cache for the server's save game under their saves folder. This may delete any blueprints in the factory. Clients will then re-download the asset bundles from the server when they reconnect.

Some blocks such as constructors and armor lockers have huge collision area
The scenario is extremely out of date. Make sure the build number shown in-game is the same as the latest build number from the change notes.
Re-upload files to the server if playing on a server and make sure the FTP client's transfer mode is set to binary.
A new save game may be necessary with how old of a version was being used.

Problems with patrol vessels
Patrol vessels have several hardcoded mechanics or game bugs.
These issues cannot be solved within the scenario and should not be reported here.
  • Patrol vessels can be invisible or their location desynced. Traveling to the location of the radar ping for the vessel may resync the vessel's location.
  • Patrol vessels might not show on the HUD even if you look directly at them and ping your detector.
  • Patrol vessels can take less damage when shot at from behind.
  • Patrol vessels can be difficult to salvage, damage, or enter even when disabled. Try placing your own core and turning off thrusters, or waiting for it to settle in place before attempting to board.
  • Patrol vessels will despawn if their original core is removed and they leave render range for any reason. Keep a decored patrol vessel within render distance until you have looted and salvaged, even if you placed your own core on it.
  • Patrol vessels can get stuck on asteroids, POIs, or other patrol vessels. This can cause massive FPS loss down to single digits. Leaving the area and coming back later may unstick the vessels.
  • Patrol vessels spawned as part of the space defense system will warp out if they are disarmed and self destruct if they are disabled or lose their core. Patrol vessels spawned as part of a mission will self destruct if they lose their core.
  • The space defense system may break and continually spawn infinite reinforcements. Avoid that area or remove all nearby POIs using console commands (on servers ask an admin).
  • Patrol vessels may move at full speed even with only a single thruster left. Destroy all rear-facing thrusters to force the ship to a complete stop.
  • Patrol vessels may turn on a dime even if they are dreadnought size.

Additionally some patrol vessels may have additional mechanics in the scenario to increase their difficulty:
  • Some patrol vessels may have RTGs that are not targeted by your turrets, preventing you from disabling them by setting your turrets to target generators. Other patrol vessels may have multiple cores. This is intended to increase their difficulty.
  • Some sectors may be "raided" by fleets of patrol vessels.
  • Some patrol vessels may have periodic ambient audio. Disable them and shut down their power to turn off the audio. (See coop audio bug above if their audio is too loud).
  • Not all loot will survive the battle.
  • Patrol vessels will not abide by the same limitations and restrictions as player ships. They are slow, cannot dodge, cannot keep themselves facing the player, cannot use manual weapons, and cannot retreat to recharge shields or repair damage.

Weapons do not show on ship toolbar
There is a maximum limit of 21 to how many manual weapons a ship can have at one time.
This limit is shared among all devices that show up on the ship toolbar, including drills and detectors.
The first one of any specific weapon does not count towards the limit.
Remove manual weapons until they all start showing up again.

Weapons must be facing forward to show up and operate. Make sure all your weapons are facing the front of your ship.
For the MX-4 Rapid Torpedo Launcher make sure the arrows on top of the launcher are facing towards the front of your ship.

Some POIs do not show up on the detector or show up at low ranges
This is intended. Some minor POIs, wrecks, and asteroids will have low detection ranges or won't be detected at all.

Sometimes get an inventory full message when mining custom ores
This is a technical issue with the way custom ores need to be set up. You can ignore this message and it will not affect your actual yield.
Will sometimes happen when mining dense or rich ice, rich asteroids, and tungsten, magmacite, and silver or any other custom ore types.

Note: Your drills, constructors, or other devices or players will be unable to deposit items into the container while any player is viewing that container. Checking your cargo boxes frequently while mining may cause you to actually lose out on ore.

Cannot find Tungsten Ore in Tungsten Ore Deposits
Tungsten ore deposits are made out of nuggets buried underground. You will need to dig deeper than the POI marker shows and in a larger radius to find them.

    Mission rewards sometimes not granted
When completed, missions will attempt to place their rewards into your personal inventory. If this is full the rewards may instead be dropped near your character or not dropped at all.
If you are connected to a container using logistics, the reward will be placed in your connected container.
If the connected container was unavailable, such as having no empty space or already being viewed by a player you may lose the rewards.
Before completing or turning in any mission make sure you have plenty of free inventory slots and volume either in your personal inventory or any container you are connected to.

NPCs and sentry guns do too much damage to players
NPCs and sentry guns in the scenario currently deal double the intended damage to players.
Until this is fixed with RE2 it is recommended to keep the difficulty on easy.

Also your damage reduction is reduced by how damaged your armor is.

Some ore deposits use a default gray texture
Visual bug only, will not affect yield. Some planets need their textures updated.

Server: Game does not start after updating scenario
    Double check the following:
    1. Did you make sure the scenario was up to date on your client before transferring the files to the server?
    2. Did you use binary transfer mode if using a FTP client?
    3. Did you keep the scenario's folder name the same?
    4. Did you make sure to not leave the scenario's name as the default string of numbers?
    5. Did you make sure the server was offline when updating the scenario?

    Stuck on a mission
Many missions in the scenario were written before a lot of the new mission tech was added and are therefor prone to getting stuck.

If you encounter an issue where you need to speak to a console that says you cannot speak to a console in player controlled structures, you can either regenerate the POI or travel to a different planet that also has the same missions and resume the mission there.
This happens if you removed the core in the mission POI.

In RE2 many of these missions will be rewritten to avoid breaking.
Please feel free to report those issues here, but it may not be fixable yet.

Some missions have certain requirements before they can be started, such as The Forge mission that requires you to complete the Project Eden Prologue Make Contact with Terran Forces AND have 3 million credits in your bank account.

Missions require mission items to be in your personal inventory, or your personal toolbar if stated as such.
