Its mostly to simulate breathing of radioactive particle and their mutagenic effect due to their latent radiation emission

Radiation sickness, as it stand in game, is for me just gamma ray irradiation

Gameplay wise its just give radiation sickness over time

As far as I know you can use them just like vanilla for crafting component as the rod tag is taken into account for skill crafting unless that changed

Okay but how? I tried to place an used fuel rod in the deconstructor and we got exposed to radiation, on top of that the room straight up just burst into flames.

How are you supposed to deconstruct fuel rods, or craft them into depleted fuel rods? Do I just flood the room? Is there any way of cooling down active fuel rods?

Currently rods don't loose heat when contained at all, consider them as always hot

Incendium and fulgurium have a cooling mechanics but only when uncontained and in water for incendium, though it re-heat itself once it drained the water
