The map

Can you tell me if it makes a difference which map to play on in terms of creatures and/or maybe you can recommend which map is best to play Omega on?

yes maps makes difference but only to a part

as the natural spawning species are always more common that piggyback ones

in general the best map to use is one where you know the dino species spawn locations and the resource locations
