Because the original game the protagonist is silent, too.

it is still unknown due to barney talking in half life 2, but not blue shift.
(except for gordon freeman and adrian shephard)

Spoilers*
Idk at least in the original game, Barney as is going through the fright yard finds other scientist locked in freight cars and they say "I am not Rosenberg, but you will help me won't you" implying he asked them if they were Rosenberg, though he never actually said anything. Of course this part was changed quite a bit in the Remake here and made more complex at least from what I remember. I would say half silent? lol It has been a minute since I played the original Blue Shift. Played though this remake to the portal scene, Freaking great work though Jofoyo! I did encounter A LOT of CTD trying to save and idk where to start getting a .bat file to work on my Steam Deck. Played it on my older Alienware R5 laptop instead, though I do hope Linux support or more to a point a .exe is made to run easier under proton at the most.
