Hideout Upgrades as an Inquisitor

Hello guys, can someone explain me how do you transfer your hideout upgrades to your heir? Because sometimes they do transfer and sometimes they don't, and you get a zero upgrades hideout making it 100% useless

I am playing as a leopold von murnau landed character. If i guess correctly, for some reason when my player only got daughters, the next player heir was not chosen from leopold kids but instead some random von murnau male, so my player does not have a von murnau surname now, maybe that is why my hideout is empty

You can designate heir yourself, this might help avoid this situation
