Journey to find lair options
Yesterday while playing revenant I went on a journey to awaken a vampire, where I got the option to recruit or kill at the end (I recruited). Today I did a journey (same save) to awaken another but the only option was to kill them. How can I know which vampires I can recruit and which ones I can only kill? Is it random? Can I force it to allow me to recruit (unless there was a changed in the POD update?)

Who was the one you had to kill?
Some might be too crazy or their path might be too different from yours.
Maybe read their background story for hints?
Some have already turned to wights, who cannot be reasoned with.

So did some testing. I believe that travelling with the "superior armaments" option causes the journey to be a "kill journey". Alternatively, it could be that teleporting to the target territory using a skill immediately after the journey to awaken them starts allows you to begin the recruit dialogue.

I tested this on the "Yima" character (nosferatu 4th gen). Travelling with cultural ambassador + teleport = could recruit. Travelling with superior armaments (with or without teleporting) = automatically goes down the "kill" dialogue path.

Hope this helps anyone else with similar issues!
